I know yesterday’s post was enigmatic at best. However, I had no words in which to express myself. A woman I work with passed away in a horrific way. If you live in North Texas you might have seen it on the news. It was Friday afternoon on highway 75 and Legacy. She pulled her car over to the side of the road and started walking down the highway, then just stepped in front of an eighteen wheeler.
I can’t help but wonder what kind of mental anguish she was in to have thought that was her only way out. You never know what the other person is going through, even the one you sit next to, or work with, or pass in the hall. Choose your words carefully, give your smiles freely; you just never know who needs it.
I want to tell every single one of my friends right here and now, if you find yourself at the end of your rope call me, not only will I tie a knot at the end, I will hang on to the bottom so you don’t fall off. Remember there is nothing so bad that time won’t heal, and nothing so horrific that you cannot work out by taking action or simply talking to someone.
No Words
My heart is heavy and my mind is reeling. I can find no words right now to express the depth of my feelings at this moment and time.
Hooray for Starbucks!
Well, today is the day, Starbucks Day! I am having an iced Dark Cherry Mocha, and it rocks! I am seriously loving the Dark Cherry Mocha. I have a new addiction.
Yesterday was a very busy, tiring day. Meetings from 10:00 am until I left at 2, then rushed to meet Alex at the doctor’s office, and then had to leave there to go with Elizabeth to the dentist. And yes, I do know that my children are old enough to go to those places by themselves, however, they still like their mom there. As long as they want me there, there I will be. I was so tired from all of the running around, that I was sound asleep by 7:30 last night, and slept hard until 3:00 this morning. I am feeling a little more refreshed.
Finally spoke with the nurse yesterday, I do not have cancer, nor do I have an infection, she said all of the blood work was amazingly good. Well almost all, my cholesterol is high for the first time EVER. It is 205; it is normally in the 150’s. However, in my defense, I did have a Starbucks right before the test. But I am going to be more conscience of what I am eating. Along with my coffee treat I picked up a cheese and fruit plate for lunch.
They found no physical reason for the tiredness, I am wondering if my schedule is getting to me. My normal wake up time, without an alarm clock, is 6:00 am. So I wonder if I go back to a more traditional schedule if the tiredness will end. But I don’t want to do that! I love getting off at 2:00 pm. So it is a quandary.
The Meeting of the Spocks
Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto had dinner together Wednesday night. While this in itself is not truly earth shattering news, we have to look at the larger pictures.
They are both Spock, from different time periods, not only different time periods, different time lines, thanks to J.J. Abrams. If the two Spocks meet and break bread together, what does that do to the space time continuum? Does it rip it apart? Never to be put back together again, or according to my friend Doug’s theory it brings peace and harmony to the universe. This is a question that should be answered by a more qualified person. Perhaps Simon Pegg, as James Doohan is no longer with us. Or the good doctor, I am sure he would have fascinating things to say about green blood co-mingling and destroying the universe.
Perhaps Uhura, since she apparently has a thing for the younger version of Spock. But you know, I always thought she had a thing for him, even in the different time line. Didn’t’ every woman have a thing for Spock? I know I did, always preferred Spock over Kirk.
So, who would be the best expert to weigh in on the subject? J.J. Abrams or Gene Rodenberry?
I think we might better be able to get an answer from Abrams, without a séance, that is.
In the meantime, I will continue to ponder the universal ramifications of the meeting of the Spocks.
Sumptuary Laws and Stuff
Sometimes I believe I have too much time to think. I was thinking that it would be a lovely idea to dress in Elizabethan Era clothing. How much fun would it be to wear silks and satins every day, to wear jewels and walk around with a tiny waist due to the corset. Oh, it would be sheer heaven; of course I would still wear makeup. Cannot go without that, and contacts. A modified Elizabethan look if you will. It does beg the question; would sumptuary laws come back into effect? Maybe they should anyway, however, it would not be based on income and title as it was then, it should be based on appropriateness. Is it really appropriate for a man to wear a Speedo swimsuit for any other purposes than a swim competition? Fine him heavily! Also to the woman who wears a leather vest with no shirt under it to work, unless you are a bartender or waitress, consider yourself fined. Please pay the coffers and promise not to do it again.
A fun Elizabethan Era Royalty fact, they rarely if ever wore the color blue, the working class apprentices wore that color which made it undesirable for the upper classes. Oh, that could explain my aversion to the color blue. Since I am royalty in my head, don’t judge, it’s not pretty.
Ok, huge wedding decision has been made, we had thought about getting married in the Catholic church, since fiancé is very Catholic and his family is Catholic, I thought it would be a nice gesture. So, off we go to find out what is involved in that. We met with a very nice woman, who gave us a list of the documentation we would both need to invalidate our former marriages. Invalidate. The word gave me great pause. My marriage was valid, I stood up in front of a man of God, with my family and friends in attendance, and I married in good faith. I had children with him; I lived with him, all in good faith that the marriage would be forever. So I told fiancé that I could not do that, he understands, he said that he had his misgivings as well. So, now the search is on to find a minister to marry us.
Romance???
I am not a romantic person, which is odd because I love romance novels. Well, really only two authors, Johanna Lindsey and Jude Deveraux, I buy whatever they write. I have a favorite book from each writer that I read over and over. With Johanna Lindsey it is Captive Bride and with Jude Deveraux it is Knight in Shining Armor. Both books totally rock.
I try to be more romantic as I have a romantic fiancé; he is always doing little things for me, nothing huge, just thoughtful and romantic. He tells me every day that I am beautiful; he is the first man besides my dad and grandfather that have ever told me that. I know what you are thinking, weren’t you married before? Well yes, I was, and no he never told me that, in fact he would say the exact opposite.
I don’t know if I was ever a romantic person, I can’t remember, I got married so young, and then there was no romance. So I honestly can’t remember. I remember wanting romance in my life, I started reading romance novels at 15 (I blame Teri Hudson); in fact my first romance novel was Captive Bride.
I have tried other romance authors, but I kept coming back to the same two, these two authors write strong, independent heroines and flawed heroes. I want human qualities in the characters in the books and Jude and Johanna provide in a big way.
So in the meantime, I try to be more thoughtful and romantic towards a person who is that way toward me. He is showing me how to be that person by his actions.
Empty Minds vs Destructive Ones
Is there anything worse than a blank mind? Yes, there is, a blank mind that is willing to be filled with whatever comes along, that is worse. I know people like that, whoever gets to them first, that is the opinion they will go with, they totally cannot think for themselves. Sad, really, to think of the potential for creative, original thought, just not there. People who spout misinformation without ever thinking of the consequences. People who don’t bother to gather all of the facts before inciting the masses.
Well, I can think of something worse, the destructive mind, someone who only thinks of horrible things to do to the people around them. Take Danielle Staub for instance. She is on the Real Housewives of New Jersey, and a more destructive woman just does not exist on the face of the planet. Last night she took a known convict to a charity function, he made threats and she threw around accusations that were so untrue, she also took this woman, Kim G, who was just as bad. They fed off of each other, and made everyone around them feel uncomfortable and a little scared.
The man she had with her, was a total nut job, if he really is connected like he bragged about being, on national television no less, then I have to tell you, his boss is not going to be happy with him. Can anyone say fish food?
There is a saying if someone shows you who they are believe them. Danielle has shown all of America who she is, frightening in a way that makes me never ever want to go to New Jersey!
Special Edition: Read all About it!
Today is a special edition of Angie World, instead of Does That Make My Dog Crazy; this is an installment of Does That Make My Dog Clever.
Chewie is getting older; please do not tell him, he cannot stay alone in the house for long periods of time without having to relieve himself. So I bought the puppy pads for him so he would have no embarrassment and it would be easy clean up for me.
There are two spots he does this in; they are about three feet from each other. A week ago, I knew I was going to be very late coming home, so, down go the pads. Now usually he only goes on one or the other, but that day, I was gone a lot longer than usual and he had to make use of both pads.
When I walked in the door and went over to check the pads I discovered something unusual. He had dragged both pads together. Now he had to drag it about three feet, not an inordinate distance, but he had never done this before. Granted he had not needed to use both pads before, so this begs the question, was he being clever or thoughtful? Or both?
You decide.

Happy Memorial Day
Tomorrow is Memorial Day here in the United States of America. This day is particularly meaningful to me as my family has sacrificed many members to insure the safety and freedom of this great nation. We have had someone in the United States military from the Revolutionary War and up to and including the current conflicts overseas.
As we take a moment to remember our fallen heroes, the heroes who came home and the heroes who are still over there, let’s not forget what they fought for.
We have freedom of speech, we have the right to lawful assembly, we have to right to worship God the way we want, not the way the nation dictates, women have the right to dress how they see fit, not how someone dictates to them, we can say what we want, when we want to whom we want. This is all thanks to our amazing men and women who give their lives serving us.
I am in awe of anyone who makes this sacrifice, it is not only the selflessness of the individual, it involves their family as well. Let’s not forget the mothers and fathers who send their children, the wives and husbands who send their spouses off with assurance all will be taken care of at home until their safe return, the children who say goodbye to parents, they all make sacrifices so our country can continue to be the best in the world.
So, to the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard privates to the officers, I salute you, thank you, pray for you and am in awe of you.
