Once and Some Revelations

So, watching Once and Again at this stage in my life I realize how much I have in common with Karen. Played by the incredible Susanna Thompson, the way she portrayed this woman slowly losing her her children (she thinks) as they grow up.

The episode of the first Thanksgiving that Rick and Lily are married, It’s Rick’s holiday with their children.

Her daughter Jessie says mom what are you doing, Karen says she’ll be with friends. Then cancels those plans, because it’s all too much. Sharing a holiday this is uniquely family oriented with someone that is not family, well, it’s too much.

The look that she has, I know it all to well, I understand Karen in a way I didn’t the first time I watched this series.

Every character in this series is just so well done, I really wish it were streaming on something other than YouTube. Some of the episodes are missing and a lot of them are really poor quality. Which is why I had to buy the series. Well the first two seasons.

Speaking of series, let’s talk Stargirl, this series is everything Supergirl should have been. It is pure fun, unadulterated, old fashioned superhero fun.

As you know I really wanted to love Supergirl, but it is so preachy and sudsy and filled with SJW stuff. All of those things belong in a teen angst show, not a superhero show.

None of that is present in Stargirl, so far, I’m two episodes in and am enjoying it immensely.

On a different superhero front, Dean Cain likes two of my tweets in the past week. I believe you all know what that means. It’s just a matter of time.

Dating Update and Wedding Nightmares

I had the weirdest dream last night, I dreamed Elizabeth Anne and I were at a family friends wedding. The bride had requested everyone wear white, Elizabeth Anne and I arrived right on time, we sit down in the church. Just as the ceremony was starting she looks at me and gasps MOM! I look down and I am wearing black, in a sea of white I am wearing black. A massive fashion faux pas, I jumped up and ran to the bathroom where my white outfit was waiting for me. It was completely unsettling, I never make that major of a mistake.

Quick update on the dating front, after much soul searching and instablocking, I decided to delete the dating app. It just wasn’t fair to the men or to myself, I found fault with all of them. Heads too big, like literally, not ego wise, their heads, maybe it was the angle of the pictures, I don’t know, but it was weird. Too tall, too short, no hair, too much hair, eyes the wrong color, used the wrong to, too, two, their, they’re, there. You name and I could find it, so I decided Jose was correct in his declaration that I am not ready.

I am really happy with my life and I don’t want to upset the balance that I have achieved and I know bringing someone else in will upset said balance. Not for the worse, mind you, but it is still an upset and I’m not ready for that.

On to different topics, shampoo, yes, shampoo, I tried a new shampoo and conditioner and I am enamored. I have a thing for shampoos and conditioners, wherever I go I search them out. This one I ordered online, I took a risk, one never knows how these things will go. I had heard of this new product a few weeks back. I was hesitant to try them, because, well, no samples and i couldn’t smell them ahead of time. But I took the chance and dove in, they are from doterra, it is the doterra salon essentials hair care line. I ordered the shampoo and conditioner and when they arrived I waited two days to use them.

The shampoo is citrus and the conditioner has mint, I was really unsure of how the two different scents would work together.

I took the plunge, I am so happy I did, my hair is so soft, my curls are so soft. The citrus shampoo and the mint conditioner work really well together. They are a little pricy but really worth it, especially if you have curly hair. I give both products a huge thumb up.

I am very fond of mint hair products and these are made with essential oils, so good for the scalp. The shampoo actually gets my hair squeaky clean, which I like, it means it is cleaning all of the other product out of my hair, the conditions is light and conditions extremely well. That’s all I have for now, oh wait, one more thing, loving the new season of Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl not so much. Too much teenage angst and preachiness on illegal aliens, girl power and a host of other things. I like my television viewing to be an escapism from everyday plights. The others provide that, I really want to like Supergirl, I really like the way Melissa Benoist portrays her, she always seems like she is having a good time. I just wish they would do the old fashioned superhero formula that works really well and allow us our escapism.

Caffeine Fueled Thoughts

Here I sit, drinking my amazing peppermint mocha coffee, one of my own making. Totally healthy, totally awesome and delicious. With so much caffeine in my system one must wonder what I will do with all of its glorious power.
Well, for starters I’ve done two loads of laundry and it is only 7:30 in the AM. I wonder what other trouble I can get into, hmmmm.
I get to pick up my beautiful granddaughter from school today and she is going to spend the night! How great is that? Tomorrow will be a full day for us as we have been planning it for a month. I don’t think I will tell what we will be doing now, I do believe I will tell the stories of our adventures afterward.
As you all have surmised I have stayed away from controversial topics of late. I shall be continuing that trend as I really don’t want to focus on the negative, yet. It’s coming, I feel it inside me, a rant is on the way and it will be a fine one, but for now, I shall not be ranting. I will continue writing about things that seem trivial to others, but mean something to me.
I am so totally in love with my green smoothie regimen. I am drinking one for breakfast and one for dinner, with lunch usually being a salad. So beyond healthy and quite honestly a little sad for me.
I do dress the smoothies up at times with peanut butter, add in a banana and the chocolate fudge Orgain protein and there is one tasty treat!
I feel the health flowing in my veins, smoothies combined with the Fascia Blaster and the exercising is making me a complete health addict.
Teenage Angie is like what the heck, but this Angie is ok with it. I will be honest, I do not stick strictly with this on weekends. I try, but there is so much going on that I don’t have time to eat a lot. I have also discovered Sole Water, pronounced solay, it is sooooo good. I make it myself with pink Himalayan salt. You should google it, I actually start my day with it, and now I crave it. Seriously good, I crave salty things anyway and this really does satisfy that craving. Plus, it is very healthy for me, ugh, there’s that word again. Healthy. I am making myself a little queasy with all this health talk.
On to other things, can I be honest here? I would like to say, and I know this will be shocking to some, to others not so much, I love Supergirl so much when Dean Cain is on. There I’ve said it, the writing and directing that I was hoping for when SG changed over to the CW is just not there yet. It’s better than the CBS version, but it is still not there. I don’t understand, the others are incredible, Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, all greatness. Supergirl is missing something, and they need to fix it quick, having Dean, Terri Hatcher and Kevin Sorbo on was really casting gold. But now we need solid directing and writing.
The love stories are awkward and stilted, I suggest they put those aside until they can find their stride story wise and directing wise. Then add them in, we can wait for that, we waited for Oliver/Felicity, which ended badly, but satisfyingly. We waited for Cisco to find his love interest, and it was worth the wait. We can wait for Supergirl characters as well.
Still love Melissa Benoist in this part, she is so gleeful in her portrayal of Kara, you can tell she is having fun. I love that, it is on par with the Legends actors. I really love when they pair Kara with Barry Allen, they are so fun to watch.
So, please, Sugergirl, get it together! Give us the storylines we want, that you deserve!

Brutal Cuts

I’ve made a decision, it is brutal, but it had to be done, I have cut three television shows from my viewing list. The funny thing is, they are all from one creator and on one channel and on one night.

I will no longer be watching or recording Scandal, let’s start with that one because it makes me the angriest. When I watch that show I become angry, the main character, Olivia Pope, is smart, successful, beautiful and made in a town that regularly chews up people and spits them out.

Here is the thing though, and there is always a thing, she cannot stay away from a married man. I don’t care about the man’s skin color or that his job is president. This woman is supposed to be strong and independent and every time this scum of a man (any man who cheats on his wife, fiancé or girlfriend is scum in my opinion) beckons, she runs. It is disgusting, because of who she is, someone who made her way in the world, created a business, she is good at, no not good, great, she is supposed to be a gladiator, instead she turns into someone who cheats. I can no longer watch a show that makes me want to throw a shoe at my television. The last straw was the abortion scene, with Silent Night playing in the background and Olivia with a small smile. Done.

Next up, How to get Away with Murder, this show, in my opinion (again, it’s not called AngieWorld for nothing) is a mess. Everyone killing someone and getting away with it? And once again the main character will sleep with anyone married, man, woman, anyone. There are no boundaries and no qualms, she even meets with the dying wife of the man she is sleeping with. Its insanity and while I know these shows are fiction, I am done watching shows that make me want to throw something at my television.

Last but certainly not least, Grey’s Anatomy, I should have given this one up years ago, I don’t even know where to start. Do doctors really act this way in hospitals? If so it makes me not trust my own doctors! They are so over the top and full of themselves it is nauseating. So I am giving it up.

Which clears room for things that make me cheer, gasp and root for the good guy and yes, sometimes for the bad ones as well.

I love television, I love scripted shows, I hate reality TV, I believe it has ruined the landscape of television. But now, these past few years, The CW is knocking it out of the ballpark with scripted superhero shows. And even though ABC disappoints me greatly with the bachelor, bachelorette and dancing with the stars they make up for it with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Agent Carter and Castle. CBS needs to step up the Supergirl storyline in a hurry, move a writer or two from Arrow to work on the scripts, however, The Big Bang Theory knocks it out of the park every single time. Amazing show, amazing cast.

So there you have it folks, my shocking thing I am cutting out of my life.

What I Wanted

I wanted to like Supergirl, no, scratch that, I wanted to love Supergirl. We haven’t had a real female superhero score her own television show since Wonder Woman in the 70’s. we were due, we were hopeful, the same person that gave us Arrow and The Flash, Greg Berlanti, was in charge. How could this go wrong?
Wrong it has gone, and I can’t figure out why, is it because it’s on CBS and not The CW? The CW has a reputation for being edgier than the big three. Supergirl is more like a chick flick than an action superhero show. Honestly the most fleshed out character is Cat Grant. A secondary character from Superman, I don’t understand.
Our heroine is unsure of herself, she has a crush on Jimmy Olsen, and yes I know, now he prefers to be called James, don’t care, I’m old school. Now granted, the actor that plays Jimmy Olsen is so good looking it makes my teeth hurt, but still.
She makes a lot of foolish mistakes based on that crush, and the love triangle they are trying to make out of that crush. Bringing in Lucy Lane, did they do this to give us a greater tie to Superman? After all Lucy is Lois Lane’s sister, so now we have two ties to the Metropolis, Superman world.
Did we need that? And all these people that know her secret, how many do we need? I love, love, love that Dean Cain plays her dad, oh and many times does Kara really need to correct people and say foster parents. Seriously, beat us over the head.
Her sister is great, she is an original character, not of the DC Universe, they made her up for the show. I like her, it does give Kara a tie to the DEO, I love that J’onn J’onzz Martian Hunter is her boss. I called that one, by the way.
I said from the beginning, he is the Martian, however, in this world, he doesn’t seem to know Superman, and he was part of the Justice League.
This Supergirl needs to get their act together, they will be losing hardcore fans if they don’t, I’m not even sad that it is not on next week.
I had such high hopes, we have been waiting patiently for a female superhero on the small screen.
The closest we have come since Wonder Woman is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, perhaps Greg Berlanti needs to contact Joss and get some advice on how to write a great female hero. Although, Felicity is beautifully done on Arrow, I don’t understand what’s happening.
Perhaps they are taking a break to get their writing team together to watch old episodes of BtVS, or even WW. She was awesome, empowering, yet kept her femininity.
I really want to like, no love Supergirl.

Weather Woes

So many thoughts so little time, I am saving what is really on my mind until this weekend when I have time to give my thoughts proper due. Until then, more vapidness, which you are used to!
Yesterday was another amazing looks day, I am loving the sudden weight loss again, I told you all I had been at a plateau, well that has ended. I look pretty darn good, and yesterday someone told me they thought I was in my mid to late 30’s. A good day indeed my friends, a good day indeed.
I am wearing my new Lucky jeans today with my favorite T-Shirt, as you know I do not wear T-Shirts very often, but my favorite is my Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl shirt. I love this girl power shirt. I have not worn it in a while, because, well it was supposed to be winter. I am so angry with the weather at this point, where was my winter weather? We could have at least had a few days of below freezing temperature. For those of you who love the warm weather, well summer is going to be your fault. The horrible insect issues we will be having, your fault. I want you all to take full responsibility right now.
Whew, that felt good! Ok, off to finish getting dressed, makeup, hair, lights, ACTION. Oh wait, wrong industry!

Positives

Since I am trying to get back to being myself, I am going to focus on one positive thing a day. Today is my new t-shirt. Yes, I said it; I actually bought a t-shirt, something that I never do. I am not a t-shirt wearing kind of woman. But this one, well this one caught my eye, Elisabeth Hasselbeck was wearing it on the view and I had to have it, immediately. I went onto Google, actually found the shirt and ordered it that night. It came Thursday, and I wore it on Friday. It says girl power and has a picture of Batgirl, Wonder Woman and Supergirl. It is amazing. I am actually going to post a photo on here, something I never do, but you all have to see it! I look amazing in it as well.
As you all probably have figured out if you have read me for any length of time, I am a huge superhero fanatic, and Wonder Woman in particular is my favorite female hero. I have dressed up like her, I have her boots, and I totally rocked that costume. Much to Elizabeth Anne’s embarrassment, but I figure as a mother, it is my job to embarrass my children at least once in their lifetime. Wonder Woman is strong, beautiful, independent, great clothes, kickin’ boots and let’s face it an amazing fashion sense.
Also, on an upbeat note, I won the coffee basket at work yesterday! Of course I only bought $15.00 worth of tickets, but it was totally worth it! So excited, it is a pound of Starbucks Iced-coffee with a Venti size re-fillable container, I cannot wait to go and get the beans ground and begin having my favorite iced coffee at home.
