Disappointments

I know, I know, I know, this will seem redundant at first glance. However, I’ve seen new things that add even more nuance to the issue at hand.

Joss Whedon, I grow more disillusioned by the day. Ray Fisher was bad enough, now we have Gal Gadot lending credibility to the bad behavior that went on during the Justice League filming.

First of all Gal Gadot is a real life Wonder Woman. She is an Israeli trained soldier. In real life. She isn’t just a pretty face, she’s the real deal. When Whedon tried to intimidate her, well, she didn’t go meekly into the night.

I know this was published back in February, but I just saw this. Charisma Carpenter’s account of what happened to her on the set of Buffy/Angel. I had long suspected part of it. But to see the whole thing was sickening. I highly suggest you check out her twitter account from February 21st.

After Charisma’s post the floodgates opened. His ex-wife stated in 2017 that he was a serial cheater and a liar. He touts himself as a modern day male feminist. Just look at all of my female characters, he says. But behind the scenes it’s a completely different story.

Amber Benson has hinted at her Whedon induced trauma, as has Michelle Tratenberg. She has said there was a rule he was not allowed to meet with her alone due to his inappropriate behavior with her. She was a minor at the time. What did he do to Harriet the Spy???? Sarah Michelle Gellar has issued a statement saying she would forever be proud to be associated with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but did not want her name associated with Joss Whedon.

I would love to hear from others, the bigger names, some from the Avengers crew. But perhaps those stars were big enough names that he behaved himself. We may never know, what I do know is that my favorite shows are forever tainted.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, The Dollhouse, Firefly, Agents of Shield, the Avengers. All tainted now, Joss Whedon proving that the ones that ring their own bells the loudest have something hiding behind all of the clanging.

The Greatness That is Joss Whedon

I made a decision Thursday evening, nay, a commitment, I was watching the current episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and it made me want to watch the first Avengers movie. But I felt I had to earn it, so I started with Ironman and worked my way towards The Avengers, Earths Mightiest Heroes.

I still laugh in all of the appropriate places and get goosebumps when the team is shown altogether for the first time, suited up. It’s a magical time and place, almost like Tahiti.

What makes it so magical you ask, I’m so glad you did, it is Joss Whedon of course. He injects the right amount of humor, horror, fun, adventure and gives us heroes with flaws and it is all perfection.

They are all unapologetically human, even Thor, who is Asgardian, they all bicker and fight and are snarky and sarcastic and in the end have each others back. Just like family.

Joss writes amazing female characters, from Buffy to Willow, Cordelia, Fred, River, Kaylee, Inara, Zoe, Faith, Echo, Sierra, Whiskey and Adele. So from the beginning I knew he was going to do Black Widow justice, and he did, she was smart, funny, strong, intuitive and inventive. She can think on the fly and can make the bad guys hurt.

You can see Joss’s influence throughout the whole movie, one of my favorite lines is “he’s adopted.” Simple, but works and is funny, I still laugh.

If you have not watched this movie I suggest you bone up on Buffy, Angel, Firefly, The Dollhouse and yes, Agents of SHIELD, then watch all of the Marvel movies that come before The Avengers. It might take you a few weeks but I think you will enjoy it more.

You can also see Joss’s influences in Endgame and Infinity War. It’s the humor, it is trademark Whedon, you cannot have such heavy movies without the humor, otherwise you come out of the theater felling like you have been beaten down.

I think if I ever met Joss Whedon I would just pass out, it would be far worse than meeting Dean Cain or Scott Baio.

He is not a crush, he is an intellectual crush, which is much worse when it comes to meeting someone.

Speaking of crushes, I am in a Twitter war with someone over Luke Pasqualino, I shall win, of course. When I say Twitter war, I mean fun back and forth banter over an actor. I will win of course. Of course.

This next week will be a short one with the holiday, then next week I shall be spending it with Tessa.

I hope you all have a great day and enjoy some television! Go, learn about Joss and watch his greatness unfold in front of you! Oh and may I suggest his rendition of Much Ado About Nothing, that was awesome! I’m a big fan of Shakespeare as well and he did that play justice.

As usual any comments, questions or criticisms can be sent to me at angie@angieworld.com. Peace out peeps!

Lord Love a Duck

I was just transported to a different galaxy, where a raccoon can be genetically modified and a tree can save lives. It is no secret I am a fan of comic books, it should be no huge surprise when I cart myself off to the nearest movie theater to see the new movie based on comic book characters.
Guardians of the Galaxy did not disappoint my inner geeky girl, she was squealing and hollering at the screen during the whole movie. Thank goodness it is an inner voice, as the other patrons would not have appreciated the noise.
The perfect actors were cast in all roles, it would be hard to imagine anyone other than Zoe Saldana in the role of Gamora, once again she has cemented her complete awesomeness in the geek world. How many Sci-Fi movies can she star in and be completely believable in every one of them? I think it is a moot question, as she is killing it in all of the movies.
Chris Pratt is perfect as Peter Quill, the half human, half alien, abducted as a child, hero.
For anyone who sees the movie, please tell me what you saw in the Collectors exhibit. I know what I saw; I want to know if anyone else saw it as well.
This movie is not only worth the price of admission; it is worth going to see again, and again. So far the only movie I have seen many (i.e. countless) times is The Avengers, I seriously love a deranged Loki. I can’t seem to help myself, I am still convinced if I see it enough times I will be assimilated into the world Joss Whedon created.
Guardians of the Galaxy is a rip roaring good time, after a teary start, we are whisked away on the sounds of pop songs from the 1970’s. What a ride it is, so much so, I immediately downloaded the soundtrack in the parking lot of the movie theater.
Run, do not walk to see this movie, even if you are not a comic book nerd, like myself, you will love this movie.

Actions result in Consequences

Facebook is a double-edged sword, it allows for old friends and family members to reconnect and forge new friendships. It allows us a window into the lives of ones we love, like and sometimes despise. However the dark side of Facebook is that it allows people to behave badly. Well, really the internet in general does this, although, on Facebook it seems to be prevalent.
Men and women both are behaving badly these days, no one seems to have any morals left, I find this shocking. To be honest it is people my age behaving in shocking manners, women messaging men who are married, engaged or obviously in a relationship, the men, flattered, respond and it takes off from there.
I was raised by a strict code of morals, by people who were not animals and believed that in a civilized society one must maintain a certain amount of decency. I still abide by this set of rules given to me as a child, don’t steal, don’t lie and don’t behave in such a way that the people who love you the most would get hurt.
I firmly believe that God, karma, life, whatever you want to call it, will get you, if you break these rules, then watch out. You will be found out every time and the world will turn against you, God will turn his back on you until you repent and make amends.
Amends, redemption, always a big part of the Joss Whedon world, I think that is why I have such an affinity for it. The worlds he creates call to me, beckon me to a place where there are consequences for ones actions, most of the time the consequences are swift and sure, other times it takes several episodes. While I know that life is not a perfectly written script, there is some truth to what he writes, although justice is rarely swift it is always sure.

Joy and the pursuit of Happiness

I started my morning with Elton John and Kiki Dee and moved on to Kirk Franklin featuring God’s Property. The songs Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart and Stomp, could one start their day better? I think not.
The song Stomp has gotten me through a lot of tough times through the years, it was released in 1996, and it holds the test of time. It is as relevant today as it was then, whenever I hear it I get fired up. Fired up is the only phrase that I can put to the way it makes me feel.
In this culture the pursuit of happiness is tantamount; however, happiness is fleeting, pursuing joy, peace, that is what we should be doing. Do you know that the Bible does not one single time tell us that we should be happy? Happiness is such a fleeting thing, thing being the operative word, trusts me when I tell you things make me happy. I have great joy and peace in the Lord, that is what, was promised us in the bible, peace, joy, love, when Jesus was here he even said if you follow me you will know persecution, buy you will have great joy. Joy and peace last an eternity, happiness lasts a moment in time, I think people in this society have it all backwards, I hear the word happy banded about like it is the end all and be all of everything one works toward. I think that once you stop doing that, you will be at peace, which for your soul is much better; I would rather be peaceful and joyous than happy.
When Buffy died and the Scooby gang brought her back, she told Spike her soul was at peace, she didn’t say she was happy in the hereafter, she said she was at peace. She believed she had been in heaven. Joss Whedon got it right; he never once put the words on paper that she had been happy, he wrote words saying in heaven she had been at peace.
So there you have it folks, my beliefs, you can agree, you can disagree, however they are mine. I fully believe when I die, and go to heaven, I will be at peace, and know greater joy than I have ever experienced here on earth. Especially if God sees fit to put me in the sitcom portion of heaven, my life has played like one, so I see no issues there. Or perhaps in the Dramedy section, I am sure they have one, and I shall be there!

Word of the Day and Date Night

Last night was date night with the Irishman, something we have not done in a while, due to him being ill and, well, just busy with life. We will not let it go so long till our next date night. I enjoyed it immensely, we went to the movies and saw, are you ready for it, The Avengers. I had to come clean with him and tell him I had actually seen it three times before last night. I am clocking my fourth time to see the amazing Joss Whedon Avengers movie. I loved sharing it with the Irishman the best, watching him discover what I have known forever, that Joss Whedon is brilliance personified. He has said we need to see it again, a heartfelt I agree was issued from myself.

Today is my day off, I will be doing laundry, staying in my pajamas for a long time, then lunch with Alex. A good day off indeed, if only I did not have to do laundry, which I do, it has become a necessity.

On an alturistic note, the Irishman received an email from St Baldricks last night stating they had raised 28.4 million dollars so far this year. I am so proud of him for being part of this amazing organization. Raising money for research to cure cancers that infect children, with their main fundraisers being people who raise money and shave their heads. That is truly incredible, if you have to choose a charity to support I urge you to look into this one and choose it!

Now brings me to a new bit in the blog called word of the day, my friend Kissa said I should incorporate this into my blog. So, folks here is the word of the day: discombobulated: confused, scattered in thought. used in a sentence: Yesterday at work I was completely discombobulated all day due to lack of sleep.

There you have it folks, another great day in the works, I hope you all have a fantastic day.

Whedon Friday

I want to talk about The Avengers, I know you are all sick of me talking about this movie, but seriously, I need you all to go see it so I can give all kinds of spoilers. I am going to give you all until the end of May, then, all bets are off. I will be spilling all, by then the world should have seen it. So, forewarned you all are. The Avengers holds 17 all time box office records so far. Joss Whedon is brilliance personified.

Today is Friday, I hope Rachel likes her present that I picked out from the Irishman and myself. I like it and would love to own one, so my thought is, if I love it, so will the recipient. I have a great dress to wear, fantastic shoes and I am ready for a party to celebrate something good.

So happy Friday everyone, I hope you have a great weekend, to all of the Mom’s out there happy Mother’s Day.

Monday’s Report

I have determined that I was born on the wrong planet, I should have been born on Asgard, I am positive I would have been a female warrior. Complete with leather pants and a sword, what a thought. Perhaps next time, one can only wish upon a star. I know I am going on and on about The Avengers movie, but it is worth all of the superlative words I have at my disposal. If Disney doesn’t option Joss Whedon for the next Avengers movie they are, well, major idiots.

This weekend was filled with shopping, first off Friday I met my friend Rachel at the Galleria, which as we all know is my mother ship. I actually helped her spend money, she chose some gorgeous dresses, I can’t wait to see what she is going to wear to her party. Her birthday party is this coming Friday, very excited to celebrate her birthday.

Saturday was not a shopping day, it was a cleaning like a dervish day and well, yes I did take the Irishman’s girls to get new swimsuits, so I guess I did shop on Saturday. They played outside while I cleaned, and then after shopping it was pizza and movie night.

Sunday; which is the Irishman’s day off, I left him with his girls and went, oh yes, shopping, this time at Stonebriar. I wandered aimlessly, well, not so aimlessly, I was on the hunt for a jumpsuit, I tried one on at BCBG in the Galleria, and wow, I looked amazing. However, I am not in the mood to spend $248.00 on one. I did find one at Macy’s but I didn’t like the color. So Wednesday I will search some more, I am determined to wear one to the party this coming Friday.

Wednesday is my day off, am seriously thinking of see The Avengers again, I will be going this coming Sunday with the Irishman. But I have an urge to see it again, and again and again. Joss Whedon has taken characters that should never be together and has woven an intricate, complex, fun-filled ride.

Happy Happy Monday People! I hope it is a great one for you all!
