Language

I was thinking about colloquialisms, the ones I grew up with and the ones I still use today, as everyone knows I grew up in Oklahoma, however the speech patterns I was surrounded by were pure Southern. Fixin to, I’ll be there directly, let’s go over yonder and of course my absolute favorite, y’all. I was watching the Andy Griffith show all weekend and the way they spoke is very much the vernacular I grew up hearing. I wish I could sit and jaw awhile but I got to skedaddle. I really miss hearing the dulcet tones of a southern accents telling me if I don’t get my behind in the house before dark I’d get my hide tanned right and proper.
I often think about the language I grew up hearing and how it has shaped my love of words, there are so many ways of saying the same thing. You can say it in a colorful way or you can say it in a mundane way. I prefer the former, I used to love listening to my grandpa tell stories, he told them so fully and colorfully that until I started school I thought he actually knew General George Washington.
If you did not grow up with a southern background, I would love to know some of the colloquialisms you grew up with, please feel free to comment. Also, if there is anyone out there that has something they would like to say to me privately, please feel free to email me at angie@angieworld.com.
Yesterday we had a birthday party for Tessa’s birthday, her actual birthday is today, she is 5 years old. I got her a Fancy Nancy outfit, doll and book, she got tons of littlest pet shop things, Barbies and a couple of scooters. This was just our side of the family, of course Jeffrey, Elizabeth Anne, Freddy, Alex, Tessa’s Grammy and Grandpa (my ex and his wife) and myself. The Irishman had to work, so he missed the festivities, I know he hated that he missed them. I was in charge of the cake, it was a pink, princess Barbie dream cake, just adorable in its sparkly pinkness.
It was the perfect finale on the weekend, I hope everyone has a pink sparkly week ahead of them

Friday Amazement

So much to write about so little time, let’s start with Friday at the team huddle, where it was decided that my blog should be read. It was regarding the mini tacos from 7-Eleven, still think they are amazing, a party in one’s mouth. So, Victoria starts reading out loud, I thought the topic was mundane enough, wow, was I wrong. My boring words said aloud by Victoria, well, let’s just say that if I ever decide to record my words, she will be the one reading them. She made them sound sexy, I didn’t think that possible, but she did, so, the job is hers if I ever decide to do a podcast.
Jeffrey called me on Friday after work and asked if I would pick up the cake for Tessa’s birthday celebration. Of course I readily agreed, I called Kroger and they are concocting a pink Barbie dream cake, I can hardly wait to pick it up today.
The Irishman is not getting past this illness he has, I do believe it is time to go back to the doctor and figure this thing out once and for all. This is the craziest thing I have ever seen, I hope it is taken care of soon. They figure out what it is and cure him, not fun seeing someone you love being ill.
There are times I wish I were a gourmet chef, I love food so much, however I know if I could really cook, I would be at least 800 pounds. Such a dilemma, I am thinking I might go to Costco this week and see if they have any peaches. Those peaches were so amazing, I might even break diet rules and get some chocolate fudge and pour over them. OMG, the best thing I have ever had in my mouth are chocolate covered peaches. My friend Terri introduced me to them years ago, when I saw her slicing the fresh peaches and then pouring chocolate over them I thought she was nuts. I told her that, are you insane I said, she said, Angie, no, try them. I did and was instantly hooked, so amazing, the chocolatey goodness combined with the sweet juicy peach was just a revelation.
Today is the birthday celebration for Tessa, I am sure it will be wonderful. See you all tomorrow with full details, maybe a picture of the cake.

Favors, Eating Dog and Birthday Celebration

Yesterday I went to my B.B.F.F.’s home to do him a favor, now mind you he had bribed me into doing said favor. Bribed me with my own belongings I might add, yes, I am easily bribed, you see he had, what I like to refer to as, the Joss Whedon collection. He had Buffy, Angel and Firefly DVD’s, so off I went to complete said favor. When I get to the location I see that Firefly is missing, I send a quick text asking if he was trying to steal part of my Whedon collection. He says, isn’t that mine? I said um no. He then says oh that’s right, I bought Serenity and Firefly belongs to you.
So I ask why he is trying to steal Nathan Fillion, he takes a while to answer, when he does he claims it is Jewel Staite and Morena Baccarin he was in fact trying to steal. I would like to take a moment and point out that on Monday nights when Castle is new, I get text messages extolling the great talents of Nathan Fillion. That’s all.
On Twitter yesterday I had something interesting happen, I saw a tweet from @MrsScottBaio, she was answering someone who had blasted her for carrying a purse made of leather. I said that God put animals here for us to eat and utilize their skin. The crazy person, not Scott Baio’s wife, then sent me a tweet saying it was like wearing and eating my dog. Seriously? You are comparing beef to dog? Chicken to dog? Pork to dog? I don’t know where these people come from, such extremist, I don’t care that you don’t eat meat, don’t wear leather, why do you feel the need to put me down? Do you think such tactics will work, oh some rabid nut in Australia says I shouldn’t wear leather or eat meat, let me change my ways, she must be right. What the heck?
I will continue to carry my leather Coach purse (thank you Elizabeth Anne) and I will continue to wear leather shoes, I will continue to eat meat, poultry, fish and dairy. I firmly believe God put these animals on earth to sustain human life, a good balanced meal is important for your body that includes vegetable, grains and yes meat.
This morning got to have coffee with the Irishman, very pleasant indeed, we discussed news stories and movies. Just a pleasant way to start the morning, I like my mornings to start out pleasant, I believe that tells me how the day is going to go. It is Friday, it is the weekend of Tessa’s birthday, I am so excited to give her the presents that I have for her. She is such an amazing little girl, I feel so blessed I get to be her Gigi.

Late Day and Weird Dreams

Well, this is a late post, I am writing on my first break at work, you see my alarm clock did not, well, sound the alarm. In fact my alarm was turned off, I have no memory of doing that, crazy. So I woke up at 5:03, when I usually wake up at 4:00, I was over an hour late. Thank goodness I have my coffeemaker programmed and had done the prep work the night before. I jumped in the shower, hair in a ponytail, makeup on, coffee in a to go container.
But I made it! I was here not only on time but 3 minutes early, thrilled with that!
I had a horrible dream last night, woke up angry with the Irishman for what he did in my dream. I may stay that way all day, don’t know yet. Will keep you updated. Also in the dream, my friend Kat and I were walking Nocona, and we met another friend of ours, and we look down and she is walking a prehistoric beast. And her feet were claws, not like cat claws, which would have been kinda cool. But more like bird talons, it was weird, so now I am wondering if the dream has any meaning. Or if I am just going insane, that is a totally viable option in my world.
We are having a celebration at work today, our supervisor is going to cook out, we voted for burgers and we all pitched in funds to get the food. It should be a fun-filled day.
Spoke to Jeffrey yesterday, we will be celebrating Tessa’s birthday on Sunday, her actual birthday is Monday. She will be 5 years old, I am so amazed at how the time has flown. I remember when she was born, she is growing so fast, and her personality is so amazing, she is smart and funny and completely gorgeous.
I will sign off for now, I hope everyone has a fantastic Tuesday.

Buffy, Coffee and Stuff

I’m sitting here drinking my coffee, watching Buffy, and contemplating my week, trying also to wake up. Sunday nights/Monday mornings are always a little tough, I go to sleep too late and have to wake up way too early. It is made better with my coffee, I did come to the conclusion the Irishman was correct, it was the brand of coffee that was making my stomach hurt so bad.
I don’t know what I would have done if it were actually coffee hurting me, that would have been a calamity of epic proportions. Can you imagine me with no coffee? Me either, without coffee is there even a me? Heady question for such an early morning.
This weekend was full, well Friday night and Saturday were, it was spent with Tessa, se is absolutely amazing. She was waiting for me when I got home on Friday, when we came inside she said Gigi, I miss Chewie, I said yeah me too. She looked at me and said I don’t think you should get another dog Gigi, you’re not ready. Wow, out of the mouths of babes. She is right of course, I don’t think I will ever be ready for another dog, Chewie was a once in a lifetime kind of companion, I feel honored to have gotten to be part of his life.
Saturday was filled with green pancakes and swimming, so much fun playing in the pool with Tess, she makes me young. After her dad, Jeffrey, came and picked her up, I collapsed in a heap of sheer exhaustion. There is a reason I had my children in my youth, I had energy, I took an incredible nap and then did nothing.
Sunday was spent doing nothing as well, I did a lot of nothing this weekend, and I am not afraid to admit it.
I do want to say watching the verdict being announced in the Sandusky case evoked emotions of relief for the victims of this horrendous man. Throughout the trial he seemed at times smug and others jovial, always a smile on his face. A smile. He devastated young boys lives, and he sat there smiling, his wife saying oh that never happened. I never heard anything. Didn’t she think it odd that he went into the basement with young boys? I would have. I hope the victims of this monster can rest a little easier at night knowing that their bravery helped stop his actions. They have saved future boys from this monsters hands, I pray for their peace of mind.
On a lighter note, I have a slight sunburn, I slathered myself in Hawaiian Tropic oil to try and get some color onto my incredibly white skin. I think the burn will turn brown, then I wont be so pale, would be nice if I had some color for summer.

Weekend Update

There was a lot happening this weekend, it all started Friday evening, meeting with Paulina for my Susan G Komen volunteer assignment. I was to be a race monitor, that meant I would have a golf cart, very excited about that, and yes, it was as fun as I thought it was going to be. We met with Sergeant Spears of the Plano police department and she gave us the 411.
Saturday I was at the site at 6:00 a.m., yes, very early on a Saturday, picked up my volunteers and carted them off to their assignments. We had Parkwood; I dropped my people off at the barricades, with instructions not to let anyone in a car onto the race side of the street. I got to drive up and down making sure it was all going ok and there were no issues. I had one mother and daughter team that I dropped off, gave them their instructions and left. I drove back by; they were laying out on the road. I thought surely that is not them getting a tan, or perhaps they thought I meant for them to be human speed bumps, or maybe they had passed out from heat stroke. I stopped asked it all was well and they very happily informed me that they were great. Drove by again, they had moved on to petting a puppy on the opposite side of the barricade. I thought Lord don’t let anyone offer these two some candy, drove back by, they were gone. So if anyone knows what happened to these two, please let me know.
After the volunteer gig, I went to visit Jeffrey and Tessa, great visit, so much fun, I just adore that girl. I cannot believe she will be going to kindergarten in the fall. It just doesn’t seem possible, I remember the day she was born, she has owned my heart since that day.
When the Irishman came home Saturday evening, he said so are you going with me tomorrow? I said what is tomorrow? He looked at me and said I have asked you no less than three times to go with me to see Ireland play in the European playoffs. Of course this was foreign talk to me, however, one thing I understood quite well. Pride. Pride in the place you come from, he was immensely proud that his home country had made it this far in the competition. So I said yes, I would go with him, I am glad I did, it meant a lot to him that I was there with him. The look in his eyes when his team took the field, was very moving, I got a little misty eyed for him. His team did not win, but it was amazing that they had gotten so far to begin with.
That is the end of my exciting, fun filled weekend. Next up, family reunion, I can hardly wait!

Here’s to a Good Day

I think I need a weekend to rest up from my weekend, I am so tired, I had to watch Real Housewives of New Jersey last night, so it was a late night for me. I didn’t watch the last hour of the series finale of Desperate Housewives because I could not wait to watch RHONJ, I don’t know what is happening to me. It was a wild ride last night, Teresa is in denial, her brother is frustrated, and oh yes, Teresa’s husband is a donkey. He is aggravating the situation between brother and sister. He doesn’t want them to reconcile, you can see how he is enjoying this friction. I feel bad for Teresa and Joey, it is sad to watch, however, watch I do.

A full week is ahead of me, although for my day off in the middle of the week, I do believe I have nothing, I do believe I will be able to just be in the apartment and catch up on laundry and my dvr. What a thought, what freedom, oh perhaps a morning workout, by morning I do mean 10 or 11. I cannot work out early in the morning. It’s too much, my old heart can’t take it, I have to wake up slowly, have my pot of coffee, then workout.

I am looking forward to an easy weekend, well, maybe not easy, the Irishman has his children, which means his girls are with me on Saturday. Perhaps I will contact Tessa’s mother and see if she can spend the night Friday night and see the girls. She loves being with them so much and they are very kind to her, indulging her in what she wants to do. Maybe it is a pool kind of Saturday that is a thought, I’ll tell her mom to pack her swimsuit. The Irishman’s girls already have new suits, so they are ready to go, that is it, that is what I will do. Whew, there weekend planned, well Saturday, after that I don’t have to plan, Sunday the Irishman is off work, so he spends the day with his children, I have the day off.

I have several books I want to read, some movies I would like to see, the possibilities are endless, I’ll figure it out. Here is to a good week for all of us, I hope everyone has a Starbucks kind of week.

A Good Weekend

Good Morning and happy Easter everyone, I also want to say happy Passover. This weekend has been a very full one, it started Thursday night with Tessa coming to spend a few days with her Gigi. Friday was a girl filled day, first up pink pancakes for breakfast, then a walk and playing on her beloved rocks. Elizabeth Anne came and we took Tess to our favorite place on earth, yes, Taco Bueno. Then it was off to Build a Bear where she picked out a rabbit and named her Daisy. No day is complete without a trip to Costco and Target!
Then that evening, the Irishman’s girls came and Tess was beyond elated, I let them stay up late playing chase in the moonlight, then eating goldfish crackers and watching Hop. Saturday morning started with blue pancakes and playing outside, the rocks beckoned and they played for hours. Their girlish giggles filled the air and neighbors brought their children out to play with them.
After Tess went home it was grocery shopping then lunch and Hop again, this time with movie popcorn and juice boxes.
I hope they had a good time, in between I managed to read two books and get laundry done. Very productive.
I have something shameful to admit, I have given into peer pressure and have read the first two books in the Hunger Games series. I should have bought the third at the grocery store yesterday, I started the first book on Friday and by Saturday night had finished the second one, now I am in need of the third one. They are quick reads as they are written for the average 13 year old, so fifth grade level, but I am going to tell you, wow, I am impressed and I like them. The premise is interesting, I am guessing the author is a fan of Logan’s Run, as it is similar to the concept of that movie. I did not find it disturbing that they had children killing children as middle school is a dog eat dog world in itself. I will be getting the third book today, I hope a store is open so I can get it!
I am going to see my beautiful Elizabeth Anne in Bonham for Easter, leaving the Irishman to celebrate with his children, I am taking care of their Easter dinner for them, he doesn’t cook, then off I go. So excited, I have never been to Sherman and that is where we will be having Easter lunch.
I hope everyone has a fantastic day, that if you have taught your children about the Easter bunny he comes to visit, and that everyone remember why we really have Easter. He is risen.

My Grandpa

I have discovered a new past time, Draw Something, you draw something, send it to your opponent for them guess what it is you have drawn. Yesterday I had the word Grandpa, so i drew a red Ford Falcon along with a stick figure, my opponent was my cousin Pat. He got it. Only one of my cousins would have gotten that. I remember that Ford Falcon so well, I remember riding in the front seat sans seatbelt, going for ice cream with Grandpa. My grandfather rocked, he had fried chicken or fried fish for breakfast every day, he had a wicked sense of humor and loved his garden. He did the laundry, not my grandmother, he did the sewing as well. He used to make me Barbie dresses out of my old dresses. I really wish I still had some of those doll clothes. He taught me the best soil to plant potatoes in, how to read and passed on a great love of animals. He was my favorite person on earth. He went home in 1977 and to this day I still miss him terribly.
If I could have 20 minutes with him today I would tell him how much he meant to me and how I try to live up to the standards he taught me. What I really remember the most is him reading the bible on the front porch, wearing his overalls, I think that is why I put my boys in overalls so much. Because they reminded me of my grandpa and it was something I could do physically to connect my children to him. I remember his smile, always there, always welcoming. My cousin Pat looks a lot like him, it is uncanny, to date I have yet to see another relative who looks like my Grandpa.
He loved wrastling and Gunsmoke, and yes, I meant to type wrastling, that was what he called it, they were the only two things he watched on television that I can remember. I also have vivid memories of the way he ate apples, he would peel them, and give me the peels and then slice the apple, salt it and share with me. He had ill fitting dentures and could not eat the peels, to this day I still eat my apples this way.
I loved going to church with him and Grandma and Great Aunt Effie, I don’t think I have the proper words to express how they made me feel. Safe, loved, wanted, welcomed, and above all a sense of belonging. That is what grandparents are supposed to make you feel, I can only hope I give that to Tessa.

Icy Morning

This weekend was filled with good and bad, first up, the good. Friday night was dinner with good friends. So good seeing Bill and Linda, meeting Ashley’s boyfriend and seeing Nicholas. We closed down Abuelos! Total greatness, can’t wait to do it again.
Then Saturday, the Susan G. Komen survivors luncheon, then time with Jeffrey and Tessa. I took the Irishman’s girls over to play with Tess, took them to McDonalds so they could run wild, then back to Jeffrey’s for more play time. They dug in the dirt, found a worm family and had a ton of fun.
Yesterday was not so fun, I was leaving to run some errands, the wind caught the front door and it slammed on my right thumb. I am right handed, it is incredibly hard doing anything at all. I slept with a baggie full of ice, that of course melted in the night, at 6am this morning, the bag must have unzipped, ice water everywhere in the bed. I have never ever seen the Irishman jump up that fast.
So happy Monday everyone, I hope you all had a gentler wakeup than I had!
