Workout

Last night Zumba about killed me, the instructor, Heather, was on fire, we even added some new steps. I was sweating like a pig, I don’t even know if pigs sweat, but I imagine if they do it was like I did last night. As you all know my workout partner is my friend Kay, I met her when I changed teams and moved desks, it never fails, I meet the most interesting people every time management has me change desks.
This time I was sat next to Kay, I had never met her before as she always worked nights and I have always worked days. She switched her schedule to days and ended up next to me, lucky her. Actually I consider myself the lucky one, Kay is opinionated, honest and doesn’t take kindly to fools, in other words they sat me by someone just like me, in that respect. I am going to tell a little about Kay’s story, I don’t think she will mind, if she does, well as she says, it is easier to ask forgiveness afterwards than gain permission in the first place.
Kay is a cancer survivor, by the time she went to the doctor she was in stage 4 breast cancer, she had let it go for so long. She let it go for so long that her surgeon actually wrote her off, he lopped off her breast and left nothing for reconstruction, that is what he thought of her chances. Her plastic surgeon had to do some really fancy work to fix it, however, fix it he did. I believe it was at this point God looked down and said to his Angels, hey, this doctor thinks he can predict the time and date of Kay Lynn’s death. Let’s have some fun, shall we? Not only did Kay bounce back, she beat the cancer and as of today is cancer free, she is a walking testimony to what God can do, I fully believe he uses modern medicine to show his miracles. I love Kay’s resilience, her attitude is joyous, rarely does anything get her down. I am going to miss my workout partner, this time she chose a shift that once again is partly in the nighttime, so our workout schedules will be different.
On that note, I am looking for a new workout partner after next week, I will be getting off at 5pm, so if you want to workout with me on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday then it is on, like Donkey Kong!
I feel fortunate that every time I am moved next to a new person it ends up being someone that I genuinely like, I also believe God puts me there for a reason. I learn more about what He does in other peoples lives, I learn about the adversities they have overcome to get to where they are and I get a new outlook on life. I believe everything happens for a reason, we don’t always know what it is, and trust me when I tell you I have a list of questions ready to go for when my time comes, I will continue to enjoy sitting by new people at work and learning their stories.

Last Book Review and Other Stuff

Well I finished the third book in the Hunger Games trilogy, and while I liked them, I stand by my statement of yesterday, they were written with 14 year old girls in mind. The marketing was brilliant, first the middle school girls, then their mothers then the rest of the world followed. Even I capitulated, I am not sorry I did, I do not consider it an effort in futility. The books were good, the first one juvenile in nature, was to draw the reader into the world of the inhabitants of this world, and it did, the second and third were written at a higher reading level. I enjoyed the ending very much, it ended exactly the way I wanted it to, that is all I will say.
I am fighting some sort of sinus thing, I do believe the honey I have been ingesting has helped stave it off because by now I usually have a full-blown sinus infection and this is just a little sinus congestion and drainage. I will be taking meds tonight so the drainage will be less, I am going to Zumba today, not going to let a little sniffle get in my way. I will probably sweat whatever I have out.
The Irishman is not feeling well, don’t really know what is wrong, hopefully he will get better if he does exactly what I say and eat everything I make him and take the medicines I am forcing down him. Wish me luck, nothing like dealing with a stubborn sick man to get the creative care juices flowing. In the beginning he would blindly take whatever I gave him, however I do believe he has begun to realize any medicine that will truly make you better tastes horrible, so now he asks, what is that. Wish me luck!
Today is going to be a great day, I can feel it, so off I go to get ready for it! Peace, love and gossip…..

My Review on The Hunger Games

Ok, so, I caved into peer pressure and read the first two books of the Hunger Game series, yes I know these books are aimed at 14 year old girls. But read them I did, and I have to say was pleasantly surprised. If you are a fan of the movie Logan’s Run, you might like this series of books. It is a definite twist on the movie, in the movie when you are 30 you go to carousel, you essentially die, but the citizens of the city don’t really understand that. They are kept pretty child like and simple. In the book, there has been a civil war, this is obviously set in the United States, and now the government in the Capitol runs everything and the country is divided into 13 districts, however they think 13 is defunct. The districts are poor, the citizens kept down and cannot get ahead, or change their station in life. Once a year they choose two “tributes” from each district to fight to the death. The chosen are between 12 and 18, it is brutal, however, so is middle and high school. So many metaphors in these books. What it is though, in my belief, is a commentary on how, if left unchecked, corrupt government can become. Especially in a land where the people are complacent, and allow government more and more power to strip away our freedoms. I did not find the books disturbing, I will not see the movie, as I never see the movies of almost any of the books I read that require a lot of imagination. Harry Potter and Twilight come to mind. I have not finished the third book, I read the first two Saturday, I started the last one last night, so I expect to finish it today.
There you have my thoughts on the Hunger Games, I hope you all have a great Monday.

A Good Weekend

Good Morning and happy Easter everyone, I also want to say happy Passover. This weekend has been a very full one, it started Thursday night with Tessa coming to spend a few days with her Gigi. Friday was a girl filled day, first up pink pancakes for breakfast, then a walk and playing on her beloved rocks. Elizabeth Anne came and we took Tess to our favorite place on earth, yes, Taco Bueno. Then it was off to Build a Bear where she picked out a rabbit and named her Daisy. No day is complete without a trip to Costco and Target!
Then that evening, the Irishman’s girls came and Tess was beyond elated, I let them stay up late playing chase in the moonlight, then eating goldfish crackers and watching Hop. Saturday morning started with blue pancakes and playing outside, the rocks beckoned and they played for hours. Their girlish giggles filled the air and neighbors brought their children out to play with them.
After Tess went home it was grocery shopping then lunch and Hop again, this time with movie popcorn and juice boxes.
I hope they had a good time, in between I managed to read two books and get laundry done. Very productive.
I have something shameful to admit, I have given into peer pressure and have read the first two books in the Hunger Games series. I should have bought the third at the grocery store yesterday, I started the first book on Friday and by Saturday night had finished the second one, now I am in need of the third one. They are quick reads as they are written for the average 13 year old, so fifth grade level, but I am going to tell you, wow, I am impressed and I like them. The premise is interesting, I am guessing the author is a fan of Logan’s Run, as it is similar to the concept of that movie. I did not find it disturbing that they had children killing children as middle school is a dog eat dog world in itself. I will be getting the third book today, I hope a store is open so I can get it!
I am going to see my beautiful Elizabeth Anne in Bonham for Easter, leaving the Irishman to celebrate with his children, I am taking care of their Easter dinner for them, he doesn’t cook, then off I go. So excited, I have never been to Sherman and that is where we will be having Easter lunch.
I hope everyone has a fantastic day, that if you have taught your children about the Easter bunny he comes to visit, and that everyone remember why we really have Easter. He is risen.

Fake Celebrity Interview: The Bay City Rollers

Welcome to my second Fake Celebrity interview, I am very nervous today because my guests, and yes I said guests, as in multiple, are none other than my childhood crushes. They adorned my bedroom walls until I was 18 years old, I would like everyone to give a big hand to The Bay City Rollers!!!!!!!!!!
Me: I am so nervous, I cannot tell you how happy I am that all of you could Fake make it today. Let me start off by getting my 14 year old self out of the way. O. M. G., there, I think that will do it for now.
I want to say welcome to the original Bay City Rollers: Eric Faulkner, Stuart Wood, Les McKeown, Alan Longmuir and Derek Longmuir.
FLM: Thank you very much for the Fake invitation to be on your program, we are honored.
Me: OMG I love your accent, I bet you get told that a thousand times a day, unless of course you are in Scotland where that accent is normal.
FLM: yes to both.
Me: Ok, I am going to show the group a picture of me when I was 16 and you tell me which one of you I could have dated.
All FBCR: {uncomfortable silence}
FAL: You were underage then, none of us would have dated you.
Me: That’s not nice. Ok, how bout this picture, I am 18 here
FBCR: Let’s humor the lassie boys, ok, all of us would have fought over you.
Me: I love a good placation.
Me: Ok, down to serious business, I have all of your albums, except for the imports, my question is are you planning a new one any time soon?
LM: Allow me to answer, no, we are not
Me: Ok, how bout touring? Will you be touring the U.S. anytime soon?
SW: not that our fake selves know about.
Me: this is going nowhere, Ok, I have a huge surprise in store for you all, I was saving it for when things were not going well, and well, they are not. So I would like to welcome to the Fake stage Fake Ian Mitchell!
FLM: this is not funny, why would you bring him here?
Me: what? He only took your place for 7 months, and wasn’t it you who walked out? Leaving your fans, I might add, devastated? Of course I was not one of them, as my favorite was Derek, the drummer. So Fake Les, what do you have to say to your fans about the way you abandoned them?
FIM: I would like to say something here.
Me: Shut up Ian, I want to know what Les has to say.
FLM: That is it, I am leaving, this all happened in the 1970’s! Get over it fans!
Me: Well there you have it folks, The Bay City Rollers!

Weather Gratefulness and Dean Cain News

Yesterday was a horrible weather day here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I am grateful that seemingly no lives were lost. Reports of injuries but no deaths, this is a total praise God day. With the videos of the 18 wheelers that were flung in the air as if they weighed nothing, the tornado that hit the elementary school in Forney, with children inside, only 5 injuries, none life threatening. Yesterday was a miracle people, a flat out miracle, and we should all be grateful. Where I work, we spent two hours in a closet, well four of us were in that closet, some were in the stairwell, bathrooms and a breakroom in the middle of the building. All handled it with humor and patience, most of the time was spent texting loved ones in hard hit areas to find out if they were ok. Yes, they were, one man, his mothers neighbors on either side were hit and the house across the street, hers had minimal damage to the roof, that was it, she was the only one home at the time. The neighbors were all at work, she was not hurt and very little damage to her home. Very grateful indeed.
Tomorrow is my second fake celebrity interview and I am very nervous, I am not going to tell you who it is yet, just know, MAJOR childhood, teenage crush. So excited!
OMG speaking of crush, Dean Cain is making a movie with Charisma Carpenter, how amazingly cool is that! I wish I were her! She tweeted a picture of the two of them, I will say it again he is still the prettiest man I have ever seen in my entire life. I wonder if he still has the Superman costume? I will have to ask him that if I ever work up the nerve to fake interview him.
That’s all for today folks, I am off to work for da man. Bahahahahaha

Great Monday

Monday was not so bad after all, our new shifts came out and I got what I wanted. 6 AM to 5PM with Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday off. Not too bad, I can still work out after work and have plenty of time before bed for household chores and TV viewing. Then not one but 2 Joss Whedon Alums on television last night. A new Bones and Castle on the same night! A dream come true! It seems something else happened yesterday and I cannot for the life of me remember what. I am losing my mind, or memory, or both. Oh I remember, I have Friday off, Tess is coming to spend the night Thursday night and all day Friday! I am seeing pink pancakes in our future, homemade Easter sugar cookies and an adventure! So excited. That girl is so much fun and I just love spending time with her. She is so smart and funny, not to mention adorable and beyond cute.
Today is Zumba day, I can’t wait, I love doing Zumba, not like working out at all, it is an hour of dancing. That I can handle! Ok, people, I have to go get ready for work now, the sooner I begin, the sooner it ends and I am Zumbaing my way to skinnyness!

My Monday So Far

Well Monday has found us again, I tried to hide, I really did, covers over the head and everything, but alas it did no good. Monday came like it always does, always predictable, nearly always a calamity. Today will be good, there I said it, I mean it and it will happen!
Weekend was filled with hair going away, girls getting their new dresses I ordered from Ruelala, and seeing Tessa. All in all a good weekend.
Oh yes, one April Fools joke, the Irishman and I changed our relationship status to married, no, not married, still engaged. Perhaps we shall stay engaged forever, who knows, not even I can answer that.
Well, it is off to work I go, I find out today if I got the tour I wanted, I really hope I did. I am looking forward to having 3 days off during the week. If I get the one I really want, I will work Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, having off Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. How great is that? Work 2 days, off one, work one then off two. I will let you all know if I get that tour. It means working 6 am to 5 pm, but that is ok, I can do that, 6 is still later than 5. Wish me luck!

My Day Yesterday

This is a momentous day, Palm Sunday and April Fools all in one, I am thankful that Christ giving his life for my pittiful one is no joke.
Yesterday was the big day, the Irishman had his whole head full of hair shaved off in a show of solidarity with kids who are battling cancer. In the process a lot of fun was had and he raised money for St Baldricks, all in all a good day. One minute he was a hairy beast, the next he was a Hulk Hogan impersonator, the next he was a Mr Clean look alike. His 1759 Society friends were there and helped raise money, they are the ones that got him to the Hulk Hogan stage, it was up to me to get him to the Mr Clean stage. With the help of a new friend and a stranger all the hair was gone and money went to help fight cancer that attacks children.
After that I took Lauren and Carolion to see Tess, together they are like the Three Musketeers, full charge, ready to face any challenge and capture lady bugs and worms. A great day indeed.
I look forward to a day full of sunshine, fun, and lots of April Fools jokes, and in the midst of all that, remembering to be thankful for all that is here for us to enjoy.
