Costco Run and Dean Cain

So yesterday I left my house, I went to Costco and then to get my hair done and then Target.

At Costco I was walking in at the same time another woman was, she and I looked at each other in horror. It was way crowded for a work day. She said I have five daughters at home, we need toilet paper. I said good luck, I said I’m here for my normal Costco run. Thank goodness I don’t need toilet paper, I did look, because Elizabeth Anne does need toilet paper. There was none, the employee I spoke with said that people were there when it opened and made a run for the paper goods. Ridiculous.

No one is admitting to hoarding the TP. I really want to know who is doing this.

No one symptom is diarrhea, so what are you people doing with all of that toilet paper? My guess is selling it for an exorbitant price, beyond ridiculous.

When I was getting my hair done, of course I was talking to my stylist, she said they told the aestheticians to go home for two weeks. Because they actually touch peoples faces, she didn’t know if they were being paid. The hair stylists were holding their breath hoping they don’t get sent home.

She agreed it was the stupidest thing ever, all of this panic, where was this panic for the avian flu? That killed way more people, or the swine flu, or ebola, which was way more deadly. I didn’t see a run on things then.

When I went to Target I noticed canned goods disappearing along with the paper goods. I did a little research and looked in the baby aisle, people are starting to take the baby wipes.

If you do not have a baby or toddler, please leave these items alone. There are parents that actually need these items.

While I was there I called my daughter-in-law that lives close to me, with my son, of course. And asked if they needed anything, she happened to be at Wal-Mart and they didn’t have any chicken, they did at Target. So I picked up chicken breasts for them, I have never seen anything like this.

All of you out there that are doing this, you are the problem. You are not getting what you need, you are hoarding, and when this blows over in a few weeks, you will have food that will go bad. So it is wasteful, and shame on you, people are now having to buy toilet paper out of the trunk of a car.

I just got my normal two week supply of food, that is all I need, that is all anyone needs.

So now, because of all of this madness, that the mass media is partially responsible for, there are real shortages. There is real price gouging, there is real need for real families. Shame on all of you doing this, especially with the goods that we all need, no one needs 5 cases of toilet paper.

On another note, Dallas Fan Expo has been postponed until June, the weekend I will be out of town for a wedding. This was not a hard choice to make, the wedding takes precedence. Yes, even over Dean Cain, there is nowhere I would rather be that weekend. Celebrating the joining of two special people and celebrating with their families.

It looks like no Dean for me in 2020, oh well, there is always 2021. I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your weekend and have enough toilet paper to last you the next two weeks at least.

Friday the 13th

Ok, so, I have a plant that has been in my possession since 1984. That’s a long time and it is a very hardy plant, thank goodness, because the plant itself represents something that happened in my life that I would never wish on any parent.

It is a plant that was sent to my son’s, Michael, funeral, I have kept it all of these years. More importantly, I have kept it alive all of these years. Through the many moves, two across country, and through all of my forgetfulness in watering it.

I have even given other people plants from cuttings from this thing. I have given all of my children one, one survived and two died, the plants, not the children. So now I am in the process of replacing the two that died, once again, plant, not children.

The plant represents Michael to me, silly, I know, but it does and I hope it lasts until I join him.

Today is Friday the 13th, which is a special day in my family, not this day particularly, but Friday the 13th’s in general. My parents were married on a Friday the 13th and were married 59 years when my dad passed. So we celebrate all Friday the 13th’s that come our way. It is a good luck day for us, not that I believe in luck, I don’t, I believe in blessings.

There are certain things I am blessed with right now, amazing children, amazing daughter-in-laws, amazing granddaughter, amazing bonus grandchildren, amazing extended family and amazing friends. I don’t need luck, I have Jesus and God and the Holy Spirit, let’s just round that out with the trinity.

As we go through this uncertain time in our history I pray everyone takes the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families. I still say stop stocking up on toilet paper, I am seeing way too many posts where people who actually need it can’t find it. And on garage sale pages on facebook, way too many people selling it for inflated prices. I stand by my statement that this is the exact reason we can’t know about the aliens. It’s the people that are stockpiling every day items that we all use. Let’s face it, we ALL use toilet paper, and if you have not been using it before now, well, I hope I don’t personally know you.

And stop stockpiling hand sanitizer, those who need it, once again, our vulnerable people, elderly, people who have chronic conditions or medical conditions who cannot afford to catch anything, need these items. Stop taking all of the rubbing alcohol, there are people with children who get scrapes and cuts who need this item.

I completely stand by my statement, it is sheer insanity for the majority of the population to lose their collective minds. Cancelling school? Cancelling major events? Cancelling in country travel? It is insane when you think about how many people the actual flu kills and how many people get that.

Let me ask you this, how many were concerned about the flu? Pneumonia? Bronchitis? You all should have been taking certain precautions way before now. I do know a person that has been taking precautions with these things before now. But in all honesty I haven’t seen any posts from anyone regarding these things before this current health scare. No one talking about how everyone in the office has the flu, or something similar, the exception of me. I still need to find patient zero that got me sick last month. Especially considering it was right before my birthday, and yes, I wash my hands religiously. I am always wiping down my work space with Clorox wipes, that I supply myself. When someone one coughs I have been known to spay lysol.

I will say I have a really hearty health system, it is pretty rare for me to get sick, when I do, I am a baby. But I am a baby at home, alone, with the cat and dog, no one to witness my whining and complaining.

I shall continue to wash my hands and use my Clorox wipes and go out in public. Today I have plans to go to the beauty salon and have my hair done, I may go get a pedicure as well.

I refuse to allow this thing to keep me from spending money in my community. I have a feeling these places will need it if this thing continues for any length of time.

Stop the Madness

Let’s talk insanity shall we, I’m not referring to Joker type insanity or even Harley Quinn insanity. I am talking about the insanity of wide spread mass media induced psychosis.

I have so many questions, why are people just now discovering the simple act of washing one’s hands? Or the use of toilet paper? What has been happening before now? Why are people insisting on stocking up on these items? And bottled water? Stop it! This is crazy at a level I have never seen, ever, in 56 years.

Oh and while we are at it, stop making your own hand sanitizer, there has been a run on rubbing alcohol. I have never seen that disappear from store shelves. I wouldn’t have noticed that except a coworker was saying how she had been to 5 stores and couldn’t find any. Her daughter fell and cut her knee and she wanted to put rubbing alcohol on it to kill any bacteria that might be there.

That is crazy, why are people bogarting rubbing alcohol? Now people who really need it can’t find it. Insanity. I even looked at Target yesterday and people had cleared out their supply of rubbing alcohol. I had looked because I thought surely Target shoppers aren’t lemmings, but I was wrong. I was going to pick a bottle up for my coworker so she could take care of her daughter.

I will tell you I am a little apprehensive, because I need to go to Costco this weekend and get bottled water, I am down to 4 bottles and I like to grab one on my way out. I am hoping they have that, I also need to get a few other things but they are not apocalypse type items.

Just so you all understand, what is happening now, this is why we can’t know aliens exist. If you people cannot handle something like this, how do you expect to handle Vulcans? This is why we cannot be told what is really being held in Area 51. This is why I can’t meet Superman, because what self-respecting Kryptonian would reveal himself to the human population? No way would I reveal that about myself to this world, they can’t even handle a virus!

What is the deal with the toilet paper? I keep coming back to that because I am very confused. Are people expecting something I am not aware of? They bought toilet paper and didn’t get Imodium? Think people, stop watching CNN, MSNBC or any of the news channels, think for yourself, use some common sense. For goodness sake, wash your hands, and continue to do so after this whole thing has passed. Don’t make this a one off.

If the Dallas Fan Expo gets cancelled because of all of you, I am never, ever, going to let you forget it. Ever.

The Rookie and some Eggplant Parmesan

I’m sitting here catching up on my Sunday night television, watching The Rookie and who do I spy, Harry Tang! From Chuck! Love it when the actors from a favorite show pop up on another show I like.

I will watch anything Nathan Fillion is in, I have loved him since his Joey Buchanan days on One Life to Live. My favorite roles he has played would have to be Mal, the Preacher and Castle, Officer Nolan is still growing on me.

This episode had Pete Davidson on it, I am not a huge fan, granted his humor and comedy is geared toward a younger audience. I really enjoyed his acting in this episode, I hope he does more roles like this one.

A friend of mine always says she can see me with a Nathan Fillion type over a Dean Cain type. I say she’s crazy but she says my humor matches NF more. Of course that is only based on what these famous people let us see of them. Never forget, we don’t really know them, we only know what they allow. Which is a good thing. People need to keep part of their souls to themselves. Can you imaging giving every single part of who you are to the general public? I can’t.

On a food note, I have been craving eggplant Parmesan for the longest time. I do low carb, dirty keto, so the real thing was out of the question. I looked up a recipe online and decided to make it. Then I came home from work yesterday and decided to improvise because I was tired. Spring forward, oxymoron. Spring exhausted. Anyway, I sliced up the eggplant and then layered it with sauce and mozzarella and topped it with Parmesan. It was so good! I used Rao sauce, it is the lowest in added sugars. I’ll be making it again, super easy, low carbs, tasty and healthy. A giant win all the way around.

Ok the countdown is on for the Dallas Fan Expo and seeing DC again and Terri Hatcher for the first time. Wash your hands people, I will not allow some pandemic to come between me and my fun.

Total Disgust

Just so you know, I listen to a lot of the Dateline podcasts. I listened to one that made me completely disgusted. Not with the perpetrator of the crime, but with the mother of the victim.

Ok, so the victim was the son, he was getting married and asked his mother for a ring his dad gave her. She said oh I gave that to your sister. She’s on vacation I have the key to her house. I’ll just go over and take it from her and you can have it.

What the heck! Who does that? What kind of mother does something of this nature??? To add insult to injury the son just wanted the diamonds out of the ring. So he replaces them with cubic zirconia and says oh sis will never notice. She does.

Chris Matthews interviewed the mom and asked if she regretted doing such a thing. Nope. No regrets at all. Of course it caused a huge rift in the brother/sister relationship. Mother didn’t care. She even told the police her daughter probably killed her brother. What!!! Are you kidding me?? Completely shut her daughter out at the funeral. Wouldn’t even look at her. Turns out her perfect son was dealing illegal steroids. His business partner killed him and his wife.

Mother has no regrets her son died before he and his sister could make up. None.

She is literally the most odious woman alive, what kind of mother goes into her daughters home and takes her things.

Once you give something to someone as a gift it is no longer yours. It belongs to them, the mother is a thief, I want the daughter to press charges. I hope her daughter has a dozen kids and never lets her mother around them. What a horrible human.

I’m not a perfect mother, but that is something I would never do. If one of my children wanted something I had given another. I would tell them they needed to speak to their sibling about that. I would be totally out of that conversation.

On an up note, Tess and I went to the movies yesterday evening and saw Onward. Excellent movie, it was so much fun, then we came back to my house and she wanted to watch Revenge of the Sith.

So a perfect evening, this morning was blue pancakes with green swirls. All in all a really good weekend.

I saw Austin, TX cancelled SxSW, I’m going to be really angry if the Dallas Con is cancelled.

That’s all I have for now folks, I hope your weekend is amazing.

My Top 20 Words

Ok, so, a friend of mine at work gave me the challenge of writing down 20 of my favorite words. These are not in any particular order. Buckle up, here we go:

1. Delicious. Try it, say the word. It just feels good in your mouth.

2. Mom. The word itself has so many meanings for me. I adored my mom and I love being a mom.

3. Jesus. The word brings up images of my salvation. I don’t like to think of what my life would be without that word.

4. Super. I love how a plain day can become a super day, how something cute could become super cute. It lends a little extra.

5. Vegetable. I can’t say it correctly but I love the word. I like saying it.

6. Breakfast. I just like the way it feels saying it.

7. Friendship. Such a simple word to express so much.

8. Bargain. Who doesn’t love that word! it says so much more than simply sale.

9. Investigation. It’s complex and so much is conveyed in one word.

10. Freedom. It invokes a feeling that is larger than I. The minute I say it I see eagles, American flags and for some reason a lake.

11. Empress. So much more than a mere queen. There is power in this word.

12. Whedon. The mere mention of this word invokes so many of my favorite escapisms.

14. Redemption. We all need redemption from one thing or another and we all strive to redeem ourselves.

15. Gigi. It’s the word that is second sweetest to my ear.

17. Ubiquitous. It just feel delicious in your mouth. Say it out loud.

18. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Because the sound of it is simply quite precocious. We had to spell that in the third grade. I’ve never forgotten it.

20. Evidently. I just love the way it sounds. With the right tone it can convey so much.

What are some of your favorite words?

Sadness

I am semi-rested up from my vacation, and here I am, writing. This is my outlet, it is my world, it is how I get everything out that is in my brain. Almost everything, some things do not get such an outlet, they should be kept to myself.

I have found, as I grow, um, not older, seasoned, yes, that’s it, seasoned. That I do not need to spew every thought that comes unbidden in my brain, my very overactive brain.

But there is something that really irritates me, so you shall get to read all about it here. My pet peeve of the week is unnecessary panicking, over things we cannot control.

Yes, I am talking about the latest threat to humanity, shows being cancelled out of the blue. Shows that we love, ok, I love, I am talking about the Magicians ending after season 5.

What is that all about? How is this ok? Who or what, can we protest to get this reversed? This is the Dollhouse, Serenity, Angel, Buffy, Lois and Clark and Chuck debacle all over again.

Gone too soon, it is a recurring theme in my television watching obsessions, get attached and the television executives yank it away.

How can they do this to me? How will I get my Margo and Elliot fix? I love Margo, she is so delightfully honest. She reminds me of someone, I can’t put my finger on it, oh yes, me. She reminds me of me, personality wise, Summer Bishil, the actress that gives her life, is beyond beautiful.

She has given life to the only character that equals Cordelia Chase, she is fully aware of who she is and what she can accomplish. She does it, with sass, honesty and some things that can’t be mentioned here. I love the character, she is scary at times, she is intense and can be brutal. I’ll miss her to say the least, please SyFy, don’t take her away from me!

Seriously, who do I have to bribe to get them to leave my show on the air? Ok, let’s be honest, I probably don’t have enough money for that. Is there anything else? Think people!

There it is, my sadness, my frustration, my anger all rolled into one.

Is there any television show that you miss and think ended too soon? I’d love to know!

Superman Day

I’m not sure why today is celebrated as Superman’s birthday since he actually made his appearance on April 18 but here we are.

Since today is a celebratory day for the big guy I thought I would share my love of him.

I first fell in love with Superman when I was 4 years old and one of my cousins brought over a comic book. I was hooked, I went on to discover not only Superman/Clark Kent, but Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Cat Grant, Ma and Pa Kent and of course Perry White. I also found my way to the store and found Wonder Woman, the Fantastic 4, Spiderman and Thor.

I found a world that I could escape to, where I could live vicariously fighting the bad guy and discovering girls could do it in heels! What a revelation that was, I wanted to grow up to be a combination of Lois Lane and Wonder Woman. Fighting crime and writing about it, that was the dream, alas when we grow up we realize running around the city dressed in boots and spandex will get you arrested.

Superman has remained a constant in my life, I have always loved what he stood for. Truth, justice and the American way, I still love it, I do wish they could find someone who enjoys playing the big guy. I don’t think Henry Cavill enjoyed it, he didn’t look like he was having fun in those movies. Of course you can only do so much with the script and direction.

So here are my favorite actors who stepped into the role:

Christoper Reeve, first and foremost, he was the man, he made Superman his own and looked like he was having fun doing it.

Dean Cain, he play Clark Kent as the main character with Superman being the alter ego. Every other actor has done it the other way around. I like Dean’s best for that reason, Clark is who he was, Superman was what he could do.

Tom Welling, he was a really good young Clark Kent, just figuring out what he could do with those powers. His place in the world so to speak. Tom made the role his own and never donned the suit that we saw onscreen.

George Reeves, he was the first to don the suit for television. He did a great job, those are super fun shows if you watch them for what they were. Entertainment. All of these shows and movies are for entertainment purposes. George was also in my all time favorite movie, GwtW (Gone with the Wind).  He was a Tarleton twin, in the porch scene, with Scarlett.

Brand Routh also did a decent job, I enjoyed the movie he was in playing the man of steel. I do enjoy him more in Legends of Tomorrow, he does a great Ray Palmer.

There have been many more actors who have lent their voices to Superman in the animated shows. Which I also enjoy, I loved Superfriends as a child, I love Justice League now, yes I still watch animated programming at my age. I have zero shame in that, I realize I am an oddity, at my age, being this completely geeky, really more nerd than geek.

I wonder when Lois Lane is celebrated? I haven’t looked that up, I will tell you Teri Hatcher is my favorite incarnation of the character. She played her ambition and neurosis perfectly, she was equal parts steel, paranoia, chocolate loving person. Teri brought her to life and she was way more than an adoring fan of Superman’s, she was in the thick of things. Seeking her own truth, justice and the American way.

So there you have it, of course this is only my opinion and in this world it really is the only one that counts.

I hope everyone has a Super day and any comments, questions or criticisms can be left here or sent to me at angie@angieworld.com.

Color Issues

When I was three years old I decided I didn’t want to touch anything that wasn’t red. Red clothes, red plate, red utensils, red rocking chair and even a red teddy bear.

Not just any red, it had to be crimson, I’ve always been drawn to dark colors. Dark red, dark purple and so on. Fast forward to today, my living room is crimson and cream and my bedroom is dark purple and silver grey.

I am telling you this as a backstory to what happened a few weeks ago. I decided to get a new comforter, I had a dark purple summer quit and thought oh I’ll get a grey comforter and put purple accessories. Instead of the dark purple comforter with my silver grey accessories.

I buy a new comforter every year, I allow my pets on my bed and it just wears out the comforters. So I order what looks grey and it comes, I wait a while to take it out of the packaging. It looked grey in the packaging. The week before my trip I strip my bed, put the new purple sheets on and eagerly take out the comforter.

It’s not grey it looks baby blue, so blue I went back through my order history to see if I had inadvertently clicked the wrong color. I did not and I have waited so long I can’t return it.

I decided I need to use it until a replacement can be found. I find one quickly enough but it wouldn’t be here until after I got back from my trip. Not a problem I thought, I can do this, I could not. I very literally could not sleep under that baby blue monstrosity.

Is anyone else like that? If the bedding isn’t right you can’t sleep? Please tell me I am not alone in this.

Thankfully the new comforter came Tuesday, I immediately redid my bed and a good nights sleep was had. The new comforter is the most delicious shade of dark purple and all is right with my world once again.

Perhaps I should go to a brick and mortar store next time I decide to try a grey comforter. Next winter. We’ll see.

Have a great weekend, Dean Cain is on Fox and Friends tomorrow morning. I’ll have to set my DVR because I’m not waking up that early on a Saturday. Not even for Dean.

Arizona Dreaming

We finally made it to Arizona, our final destination, see what I did there. First of all Arizona is beautiful and I love how they did the architecture, it blends so well with the natural beauty of the surroundings.

We decided on an Airbnb instead of a hotel. This is the first time I have ever used Airbnb, I wasn’t disappointed, it was in a good location and clean. It also had a full kitchen and a laundry closet.

Stormie and I went for a walk every morning, she loved it and I loved the scenery. The one thing that struck me was all of the orange trees, they were everywhere. The homeless there just grab and go, orange peels everywhere. At least they won’t have scurvy, also the enormous aloe Vera plants everywhere, I wanted to dig one up and bring it home with me.

Why Arizona you ask. Well, I’ll tell you, Shay’s oldest son and his wife live there. They were having their first child together. Shay asked if I wanted to go on a road trip with her to see the baby. I said can we stop in Roswell? She said yes, I said I’m all in. So that’s how it happened, her sons call me Auntie, so I wanted to go anyway.

We also went on several adventures to see the area we were in. Hiking and nature are a must in such beautiful surroundings. Stormie loves it and she loves all humans except for one.

My nephew has a bonus daughter from this relationship as well. She is adorable and couldn’t say my name, it came out Aunt Barbie. So I taught her the Barbie World song. Her parents can thank me later.

I loved visiting but no way could I live there. The heat would absolutely kill me, I don’t care that it is a dry heat. It is still heat and I hate the heat. So, Montana and Alaska still in the running, along with Florida. I know it’s hot there as well, but I seem to tolerate it better in FL.

I hope everyone has had a great week, it’s been rough getting back in the swing of things but I have persevered and today is my Friday. I hope you all have had a great week and have a fantastic weekend.
