Star Trek Enterprise

I have questions, so many questions, so I am watching Star Trek Enterprise and there are so many questions.

First, time traveling Suluban’s, what??? What is that? And it’s not even that species that is controlling it, it is some shadowy figure that is pulling the strings. I am beginning to understand why I stopped watching.

They travel back from the 31st century to stop something or have something happen, so not sure at this point. I am just irritated. Time travel has been problematic in every incarnation of Star Trek. Kirk trampled all over 20th century earth in the series and in a movie.

What’s up with the Vulcans in this show? Mind Melding is new? What? It wasn’t acceptable behavior? When did it become acceptable? Spock did it all over the place, he mind melded with a silicon based life form! And what is up with it causing a disease? MMTD? Mind Melding Transmitted Disease? What! Spock never infected anyone! And he was doing it with everyone!

I’ll keep watching, I am determined to get to the end of this series, but they have to stop some of this.

I must admit Trip is the cutest thing ever, his accent is nothing short of charming. He really is the Kirk of this enterprise, in the way he charms all of the alien babes.

I do like the characters and i’ve always loved Scott Bakula and who doesn’t love Vulcans.

The Klingons are spot on perfect, the right amount of bravado with the muscle and fire power to back it up.

That’s all I have for now, I am just about to finish season 2. I didn’t get past that the first time around. I plan on plowing through on this one, time travel problems and all.

Hair

Today was the day, I love getting my hair done almost more than anything. There’s something about a hair change that makes you think you can take on the world.

When one has the best hair stylist ever that feeling is intensified. I am so happy I decide to try a stylistic Ulta. I found Kaitlynd and that was it. She is amazing, not only does she understand what I want when I vaguely say long layers and low lights, she makes it happen.

Whenever I get up from her chair I feel amazing and like I can conquer the world. Also she makes the time fly, as any woman who gets color can tell you, it is a long process. Kaitlynd is a great conversationalist and fun to talk to. I do believe I told her my whole life story and she didn’t blink.

She had a lot of food insights to the Owasso donkey and she is also keto. So we talked food and coffee additives as well.

So in conclusion, I feel pretty. And really isn’t that the mark of a good stylist? To make their clients feel the best when they get up from the chair and walk out the door.

My weekend is closing, back to work tomorrow for me. My bed is calling, goodnight and may you all find a good hair stylist.

Glitter Soul

My weekend has turned out to be a completely girly weekend. Nails done, with glitter, of course, I have the soul of a 5 year old. I love anything that sparkles, so glitter nails it is. Hair being done today, I have to decide what I want, do I go with highlights again, or have her just dye it all back to my natural color, I know the cut, it’s just color that I am having a hard time deciding. I have repotted one plant and potted another that I have been rooting for a while now. All in all, kind of productive, I am now looking for a cookie recipe that is keto friendly.

Yes, folks, I am taking my diet keto, I did it years ago and it was highly effective. Of course back then it was Atkins, now it has evolved. Atkins has so many products out but looking at their carb content they are not going to put anyone into ketosis. I bought a book and am learning new things, I do believe I will make avocado, chocolate pudding later today. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Ok, so, BBFF and his GF have a surprise for me, they are going to do a presentation to tell me what said surprise is. Since they are both evil geniuses I am a little trepidatious, I will tell you I know it will not physically harm me. They are not Lex Luthor evil genius, more like a fun evil genius type. Maybe Loki would be a better example, maybe not, I’ll let you know when I decide. August 20 is the reveal date, I’ll keep you updated.

Nothing really new in my world, it is easy to keep a no dating rule when one stays to their routine. Work and home, Target, Costco and Whole Foods thrown in for good measure. Bookstores as well, not a lot of chances to meet anyone. I am keeping it that way, with the amount of pain I have endured with past relationships I in no way want to subject myself to any of that ever again.

Except perhaps with Dean Cain, he is my litmus at this time, I should have stuck with that ten years ago. It would have saved me a lot of horrendous trauma in my life. After all he is the prettiest man alive and I believe could hold his own in an intelligent conversation without resorting to screaming and swearing. I do believe I could have an intelligent exchange of ideas with Dean. After my initial fan girl reaction of course.

Barring him showing up at my front door, alone I shall remain, happily so. Although if anyone knows anyone who looks like Dean and can converse like Dean please give him my number. Or just bring him to my house, since I really don’t like leaving it these days.

On a nerd update, after finishing off Star Trek Discovery I am now watching Star Trek Enterprise. I watched it when it came out, but I stopped watching after the second season. It was moved around a lot and it was the days before DVR’s were ubiquitous. It is fun getting to know the crew of the first Enterprise. I love Scott Bakula, watching him as Captain Archer is a delight. I am signing off now to continue my nerd fest until I need to leave my house for my hair appointment. Perhaps I will post a picture after my hair is done here. I haven’t done that in a while. Perhaps time for an update.

Enjoy your Saturday, make the most of your day and have an intelligent discourse with someone. It will only enhance your day, remember, no yelling or screaming allowed, and not everyone has to share the same opinion as you. They are not stupid if they don’t think like you and if you listen with an open heart and mind you might just learn something. That goes for everyone.

Happy Birthday Dean Cain

It was the fall of 1993 I saw an actor on a show that absolutely took my breath away. He was very literally the prettiest man I had ever seen. He still is, he is aging very well, it was a little show called Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. The actor, Dean Cain, from that day forward I said I would never date unless it was he. I should have kept that promise to myself.

It was easy to do, having made the decision to not date until my children were grown. I didn’t want to take my time away from them, they didn’t ask to be on this earth, that was mine and their father’s decision. So, when anyone asked why I wasn’t dating I would say, I’m waiting for Dean Cain.

Today is his birthday, I celebrated by watching one of his movies. The Way Home, there were tears, then happy tears and lots of Dean Screen Time. Happiness abounded in my household.

So, here I sit, once again making the proclamation that I shall not date until Dean Cain shows up. I know, insanity, I do understand that he will not show up. I’m really not insane, I know even if I met him, he would not be interested in someone of my caliber. He is still, very literally, the prettiest man on earth. He can very literally have the prettiest woman on earth. I’m not delusional enough to believe that woman is me.

I am not going to search out men to date, I am going to wait and see if God wants me to date. Or remarry. I’ve been single a long time. Since 1993, I am kind of set in my ways, very much suited to aloness.

I am not against dating, or marriage, I just don’t know if it is in my future. I’m not lonely, I am alone, and I enjoy my alone time. I am one of those people who go to the movies by myself. And I enjoy it, there are certain movies I want to see by myself before seeing them with anyone else. I know that sounds strange, but I really don’t want anyone to see me fan girl out over Star Trek or Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman or Loki. Some things do not need to see the light of day, and well, I plan on keeping them in the dark.

There are some things that no one ever needs to know and perhaps I need to keep them that way. But then we have Angie World and we all know I cannot seem to help myself when it comes to tell things about, well, myself.

I enjoy movies by myself, bookstores by myself and I don’t like sharing my popcorn.

That’s all I have for now, I’ll sign off with a very happy birthday wish to the man that has given me many years of entertainment. Happy Birthday Dean Cain, may you have all of the happiness you have given me over the years.

Happy Birthday Odela

I’ve said it often and loudly, I seriously, hands down, had the best mother. Ever.

I know I say that a lot, but it’s true. Today, to honor her on what would have been her 105th birthday I am going to tell an Odela story. My mom was a quiet woman, her sense of humor was not on display for the world to see. I am taking it upon myself to share it with you.

She and my dad were walking to the garden one evening. It was on the bottom land, they had to walk down a hill, through fruit trees and over the creek to get there.

As they were going through the fruit trees my mom looked down and saw a rubber snake. Or so she thought. She looked at it and thought to herself, look at that, Foy threw that back here to scare me. I’ll show him. She scooped the snake up and threw it at my dad.

It hissed. She screamed, my dad hollered. It was a real, live snake. He said what did I do?? She said I thought it was a rubber snake. They both collapsed in laughter.

She loved little jokes, not live snake ones, but fake ones were good.

I miss her so much, I miss that humor, that soft smile and her gentle wisdom.

I know without one doubt she is having the best birthday with her daddio and now their son Jesse.

I love you mom, happy Birthday!

Review of Star Trek Discovery

I have been a fan of Star Trek since I was four years old. Yes, 4 years old, I fully remember watching the show at that age and falling in love. What was not to love about the show? A woman on the bridge giving the captain information he needed to fully form a plan on how to proceed with that weeks adventure. A Vulcan science officer, trusted second in command, logical, steady and a force to be reckoned with. The captain himself, cowboy diplomacy at its best, Captain Kirk was part rogue, part diplomat and always had the answer in the end. A loyal friend, a faithless companion (let’s face it, Kirk logged more time with space babes than anyone in the known universe) and in the end someone you really wanted at the helm of a starship.

I loved it, I have loved all incarnations of the creation since, I was there opening weekend for Star Trek the Motion Picture, almost swooning at a Spock dressed in all black.

Having said all of that I was finally able to see Star Trek Discovery, if you are an Amazon Prime member you can get a free 7 day pass to watch CBS All Access. As soon as I saw that I jumped on it, I have been absolutely dying to watch this new series. I have heard good things about it, however, in all honesty, I don’t listen to others when it comes to my beloved Star Trek. I like to experience it for myself, so, for the past two days I have been glued to my television watching.

I was not disappointed, the people who created this have not only honored those of us who came first, they built on the premise of the original show. This is set 10 years before the original show started, we have some returning characters, a lot of new, but the canon remains the same.

I won’t give anything away, as I believe everyone should discover (see what I did there) Discovery for themselves. To say I loved it is an understatement, I can barely wait for season 2, I don’t think I will pay for CBS All Access, because this is the only show I would watch on it. So I may wait until the season is complete and wait for another 7 day free pass to watch. I loved binging on the show, there were only 15 episodes to this season. I don’t know how many they have planned for next season.

If you are a Trek fan, watch it, if you are not, watch it, it can stand alone. I will tell you, the music they did for the intro is amazing, they have a new twist to a classic tv hit theme show song, they even incorporated some of the newer movies notes in there. I want to download it and listen just to the music.

I will tell you this tidbit, the very last episode, the closing music, is all from the original Star Trek show. It actually gave me goosebumps to hear it again. I loved it, my nostalgia is complete at that point.

So there you have it folks, my unprofessional, totally from the heart review of the new Star Trek Discovery. It is a fine addition to a stellar list of shows and movies.

As usual any comments or questions can be left here or sent to angie@angieworld.com.

Things I Would Change

A friend of mine posted on Facebook (of course) a provocative question, “What would you change about yourself if you could?” Well, I was all over that question, so much I would change about myself and it is all physical.

With all of the rejection I have experienced in my life I seriously see myself in a different light than I did at 16. At 16 I thought I was the cutest thing in shoe leather, it turns out I was not.

So, starting with the top of my head we’ll go in order:

Hair: I would have it be perfectly straight and super shiny, I know I could buy that, but it’s really expensive and the maintenance is exhausting. Also, I would have Jamie Finnell red hair, I know most people reading this will say what. But trust me, she had the best hair I have ever seen, it was the perfect red and try as I might I have never been able to achieve that level of perfection. No matter what dye I have tried or hairdresser, no product or professional has ever come close to her shade of red.

Moving on.

Eyes: they don’t sparkle, I have seen people who’s eyes literally sparkle. I don’t know how this happens, who decides to put that sparkle there? I know who does it, but seriously, it could have been spread out to a few others. ok, me, it could have spread to me, and it didn’t so there you have it, bitterness ensues.

Nose: where to start on that, I have a classic family trait nose, it’s enormous, it takes up my whole face. Enough said.

Mouth: I’m actually pretty happy with that feature, it is a perfect bow shape, not too big, not too small and my teeth are incredibly straight and white. Not too much to be unhappy about there.

The rest, well come on, nothing a great plastic surgeon can’t fix. Having given birth 5 times has taken it’s toll on my body and no amount of exercise and diet will change some things.

A lot of people commented they would change aching parts of their body. I am way fortunate I don’t have aches and pains and my health is stupidly healthy. My blood pressure is always 100/70 and I have no ailments other than the occasional flu, food poisoning, sinus infection and headache. So on that end all is good, my grandmother was stupidly healthy as well. We are a hardy people.

The sad part is I wish I had appreciated my looks more when I was younger. I could have really ruled the world, I was really pretty, but time has not been kind to me. I do a lot of beauty treatments and really take care of my skin. I don’t really drink alcohol, I have never smoked, that one time when I was 6 doesn’t count, I don’t do drugs and never have. So on that end I’m all good, but I really do wish God had blessed me more in the older person looks department.

So, here is my question to you, out there, what would you change about yourself if you could? Of course you can answer here, or you can email me at angie@angieworld.com.

Current Irritations

We all know Facebook is where I find the most irritating posts, well, now Twitter has joined in. There are a few things I would like to address on both platforms.

First off, Ewan McGregor called and has asked that everyone stop trying to pass him off as Jesus. It is very flattering, however, he did not die on a cross and come back to life. He cannot promise you everlasting life, he can wield a mean lightsaber, if you need lessons he can probably arrange for that to happen. But the other, it needs to stop.

The picture of the actors from Tropic Thunder, while they do appreciate all prayers, would like everyone to stop passing them off as Vietnam Vets. You are encouraged to buy tickets to whatever current movies they are starring.

I almost feel better, but there’s one more thing on Facebook that has crawled under my skinned and burrowed around for a while.

The only Empaths are on Star Trek, there was one on the original series, as a matter of fact the name of the episode was The Empath. Season three if I am not mistaken, which I rarely am when it comes to Star Trek. She felt the emotions of others so keenly she had to live alone, isolated. If you are truly an empath, you will need to find a cave to live in.

Next was Deanna Troi, from Betazed, are you from Betazed? No? There is a good chance you are not an empath.

I took a test on Facebook, it said I was originally from Asgard. If we are to believe all tests on Facebook, let’s start with that one. I will immediately begin ruling over all humans, as we all know everyone from Asgard has some sort of power. Oh, wait, Asgard has been destroyed, amusingly enough by an Asgardian.

Facebook tests can be fun to take, but take them with a grain of salt. Please, I’m begging you, for my sanity.

Not everyone has empathic abilities and not everyone’s ex is a sociopath. I wonder if it would surprise anyone out there to learn we all have sociopathic tendencies. You can take any personality trait and make it into something bad.

Am I done with things on Facebook? Let me think….. No, one more things.

I recently watched a video of a man who did an experiment to see how many people actually read the bible.

He posted, on a page that profess to be Christian, Luke 4:7. Now for those of you who don’t know, that verse says: “If you worship me it will all be yours”. For those of you not familiar, that verse happens to be the devil talking to Jesus. Trying to tempt him while he was fasting in the wilderness. It was surprising how many people said yes Lord and clicked like, said things like amen, hallelujah, seriously people we have go to do better. Just take a minute and read the Bible and stop just clicking like. If you had read the Bible you would know God never ever promised us a life of luxury and ease for following him. As a matter of fact He promised life would be very hard, what you would get and still will get even today for following Christ is everlasting life. Eternal life. Let that sink in. My best advise is read, just read. Ok, now am I finished with Facebook….   Yes, for now, moving on to Twitter.

Someone said they were born in Texas and bred to hate Oklahoma, yes hate, such a strong word. I was born in Oklahoma and raised with the notion that Texas was our cousin. Sometimes a really ugly, bad cousin, but a cousin nonetheless, my own grandmother was born in Fort Worth. I could no more hate Texas than I could her, to hate something so deeply as this man claimed to hate Oklahoma is detrimental to ones health.

I tried to think of a state in the Union that I hated as much as he professed to hate Oklahoma. I’m still thinking, because I don’t really hate anything. Except crocs, the shoes, not the animal, liver, I really hate liver, zucchini, I’ve tried to like zucchini, I just can’t. Oh and soccer, I really despise soccer. Other than that, it’s all good in my neighborhood.

I don’t even hate any people, some I pity, some I look upon with great disdain, but I don’t hate them. I would imagine there are people who hate me, I can think of two, three, wait, 4. I think that’s it, I honestly don’t care if anyone hates me, that just hurts them not me.

Obsessions

I find myself obsessed with a few things lately, first off is the song Save Me by Foreigner. I had no idea this song existed until a few days ago. I am obsessed now, it is brilliant and I will be playing it at my wedding to Dean Cain. I really hope he never finds my blog.

Second, A Sandwich and some Lovin podcast, it is so awesome, find it and listen. You will not be sorry.

Coffee, always and forever, I can’t seem to stop myself from buying coffee beans when I find something interesting or on sale.

Pajamas, for so long, I have so many, it is a sickness, I probably need help.

My obsessions are probably pretty harmless, unless that restraining order comes or I end up on Dateline. I can see the title of that show: Woman hopped up on caffeine shows up on Dean Cain’s doorstep in a wedding dress. It will not be pretty folks, I will be one sobbing mess as they haul me off.

This week is my week with Tess, it is our traditional week in the summer. I am going to enjoy this week, she is 11 now and I know the time is coming fast where she will want to be with her friends more than her grandmother. I will relish whatever time she wants to spend with me.

I asked her what she wanted to do and she said be lazy, well, unbeknownst to her, I have some things planned. I hope she likes them.

I foresee lots of popcorn, Netflix, Hulu and laughter, we laugh a lot when we are together. She is a funny girl and her sense of humor is just getting stronger as she gets older. We are all pretty funny, so it is genetic, as is sarcasm, she seems to have inherited that as well. Thank goodness.

That’s all I got for now, I will probably not post again until after my fun filled week with Tess. Everyone have a great week and get out and enjoy the Texas heat. (insert sarcasm emoji here).

Stalker Alert

Happy Friday the 13th! My favorite days of the year, for a myriad of reasons. First off, it is a good luck day in my family, as many of you know, my parents were married on a Friday the 13th. I wanted my son, Alex to be born on the 13th, but that was a Saturday the year he was born and since it was a scheduled c-section my doctor said no. He was not coming in on a Saturday for that reason. So, there ya have it.

So here I sit, on a Friday the 13th, excited for the day and all that it will bring.

Having said all of that, I have news, I, officially have a stalker. A few months back, at work, I sent a business customer an email (work, all work related) his information, it was a complicated issue and he asked that I email him the information when I had taken care of the issue. It took hours, it was very involved and I had no issue doing so.

Fast forward several months (yes, months) later, I open my company email yesterday morning and there is an email from that customer. It said, don’t take offense but you are gorgeous. At first I thought it was spam, sometimes the firewall doesn’t catch it, some does get through. Then I noticed it was a reply to me, to the original email I sent.

I asked a person who does our support, hey are our pictures on our outgoing email. He said yes, I said since when! He said, Angie, several years.

Then in my personal email I get a notification from LinkedIn saying someone has viewed my profile. It was this guy! I was like what the heck. So apparently he has been staring at that picture for months.

Not only that, but my last name is unusual, I am easily found if you have that information. So now I’m a little freaked out. Time to batten down the hatches and go into hiding. Does anyone know how to delete a LinkedIn account?

Other than that, not a lot new, next week will be spent with Tess, I am very excited about that, so much fun will be had.

I am off to get dressed and shop for Granddaughters birthday party. Have a great Friday the 13th!
